they will work however many years it has been since the sale, and pay back the balance to the person who bought it, and go back to their property

Then let him count the years of the sale thereof, and restore the overplus unto the man to whom he sold it; that he may return unto his possession.

26However, if they don't have anyone who can buy it back, but in the meantime their financial situation improves and they have enough to buy back the land,

28If they can't raise enough to pay the person back for the land, the buyer will remain its owner until the Jubilee Year. But in the Jubilee Year the land will be returned so that the original owners can go back to their property.
