Psalms 101
A Prayer for the Poor; when he is deeply afflicted, and pours out his supplication before the Lord. 1
Hear my prayer, O Lord, 1 And let my cry come to thee. 1
Turn not away thy face from me: 1 In the day when I am afflicted, incline thine ear to me: 1 In the day when I shall call upon thee, speedily hear me. 1
For my days have vanished like smoke, 1 And my bones have been parched like a stick. 1
I am blighted like grass, and my heart is dried up; 1 For I have forgotten to eat my bread. 1
By reason of the voice of my groaning, 1 My bone has cloven to my flesh. 1
I have become like a pelican of the wilderness; 1
I have become like an owl in a ruined house. 1 I have watched, and am become 1 As a sparrow dwelling alone on a roof. 1
All the day long mine enemies have reproached me; 1 And they that praised me have sworn against me. 1
For I have eaten ashes as it were bread, 1 And mingled my drink with weeping; 1
Because of thine anger and thy wrath: 1 For thou hast lifted me up, and dashed me down. 1
My days have declined like a shadow; 1 And I am withered like grass. 1
But thou, Lord, endurest forever, 1 And thy memorial to generation and generation. 1
Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: 1 For it is time to have mercy upon her, for the set time is come. 1
For thy servants have taken pleasure in her stones, 1 And they shall pity her dust. 1
So the nations shall fear thy name, O Lord, 1 And all kings thy glory. 1
For the Lord shall build up Zion, 1 And shall appear in his glory. 1
He has had regard to the prayer of the lowly, 1 And has not despised their petition. 1
Let this be written for another generation; 1 And the people that shall be created shall praise the Lord. 1
For he has looked out from the height of his sanctuary; 1 The Lord looked upon the earth from heaven; 1
To hear the groaning of the fettered ones, 1 To loosen the sons of the slain; 1
To proclaim the name of the Lord in Zion, 1 And his praise in Jerusalem; 1
When the people are gathered together, 1 And the kings, to serve the Lord. 1
He answered him in the way of his strength: 1 Tell me the fewness of my days. 1
Take me not away in the midst of my days: 1 Thy years are through all generations. 1
In the beginning thou, O Lord, didst lay the foundation of the earth; 1 And the heavens are the works of thy hands. 1
They shall perish, but thou remainest: 1 And they all shall wax old as a garment; 1 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them, and they shall be changed. 1
But thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. 1
The children of thy servants shall dwell securely, 1 And their seed shall prosper forever.
