Psalms 37

A Psalm of David for remembrance concerning the Sabbath day. 1

O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath, 1 Neither chasten me in thine anger. 1

For thy weapons are fixed in me, 1 And thou hast pressed thy hand heavily upon me. 1

For there is no health in my flesh because of thine anger; 1 There is no peace to my bones because of my sins. 1

For my transgressions have gone over my head: 1 They have pressed heavily upon me like a weighty burden. 1

My bruises have become noisome and corrupt, 1 Because of my foolishness. 1

I have been wretched and bowed down continually: 1 I went with a mourning countenance all the day. 1

For my soul is filled with mockings; 1 And there is no health in my flesh. 1

I have been afflicted and brought down exceedingly: 1 I have roared for the groaning of my heart. 1

But all my desire is before thee; 1 And my groaning is not hidden from thee. 1

My heart is troubled, my strength has failed me; 1 And the light of mine eyes is not with me. 1

My friends and my neighbors drew near before me, and stood still; 1 And my nearest of kin stood afar off. 1

While they pressed hard upon me that sought my soul: 1 And they that sought my hurt spoke vanities, 1 And devised deceits all the day. 1

But I, as a deaf man, heard not; 1 And was as a dumb man not opening his mouth. 1

And I was as a man that hears not, 1 And who has no reproofs in his mouth. 1

For I hoped in thee, O Lord: 1 Thou wilt hear, O Lord my God. 1

For I said, Lest mine enemies rejoice against me: 1 For when my feet were moved, they spoke boastingly against me. 1

For I am ready for plagues, 1 And my grief is continually before me. 1

For I will declare mine iniquity, 1 And be distressed for my sin. 1

But mine enemies live, and are mightier than I: 1 And they that hate me unjustly are multiplied. 1

They that reward evil for good slandered me; 1 Because I followed righteousness. 1

Forsake me not, O Lord my God: 1 Depart not from me. 1

Draw nigh to my help, O Lord of my salvation.
