Psalms 43
1For the end, a Psalm for instruction, for the sons of Korah. 1
2O God, we have heard with our ears, 1 Our fathers have told us, 1 The work which thou wroughtest in their days, in the days of old. 1
3Thine hand utterly destroyed the heathen, and thou didst plant them: 1 Thou didst afflict the nations, and cast them out. 1
4For they inherited not the land by their own sword, 1 And their own arm did not deliver them; 1 But thy right hand, and thine arm, 1 And the light of thy countenance, because thou wert well pleased in them. 1
5Thou art indeed my King and my God, 1 Who commandest deliverances for Jacob. 1
6In thee will we push down our enemies, 1 And in thy name will we bring to nought them that rise up against us. 1
7For I will not trust in my bow, 1 And my sword shall not save me. 1
8For thou hast saved us from them that afflicted us, 1 And hast put to shame them that hated us. 1
9In God will we make our boast all the day, 1 And to thy name will we give thanks forever. Pause. 1
10But now thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; 1 And thou wilt not go forth with our hosts. 1
11Thou hast turned us back before our enemies; 1 And they that hated us spoiled for themselves. 1
12Thou madest us as sheep for meat; 1 And thou scatteredst us among the nations. 1
13Thou hast sold thy people without price, 1 And there was no profit by their exchange. 1
14Thou hast made us a reproach to our neighbors, 1 A scorn and derision to them that are round about us. 1
15Thou hast made us a proverb among the Gentiles, 1 A shaking of the head among the nations. 1
16All the day my shame is before me, 1 And the confusion of my face has covered me, 1
17Because of the voice of the slanderer and reviler; 1 Because of the enemy and avenger. 1
18All these things are come upon us: but we have not forgotten thee, 1 Neither have we dealt unrighteously in thy covenant. 1
19And our heart has not gone back; 1 But thou hast turned aside our paths from thy way. 1
20For thou hast laid us low in a place of affliction, 1 And the shadow of death has covered us. 1
21If we have forgotten the name of our God, 1 And if we have spread out our hands to a strange god; 1 Shall not God search these things out? 1
22For he knows the secrets of the heart. 1
23For, for thy sake we are killed all the day long; 1 We are counted as sheep for slaughter. 1
24Awake, wherefore sleepest thou, O Lord? 1 Arise, and do not cast us off forever. 1
25Wherefore turnest thou thy face away, 1 And forgettest our poverty and our affliction? 1
26For our soul has been brought down to the dust; 1 Our belly has cloven to the earth. 1
27Arise, O Lord, help us, 1 And redeem us for thy name’s sake.
