Psalms 51
1For the end, a Psalm of instruction by David,
2when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said to him, David is gone to the house of Ahimelech. 1
3Why dost thou, O mighty man, boast of iniquity in thy mischief? 1 All the day
4thy tongue has devised unrighteousness; 1 Like a sharpened razor thou hast wrought deceit. 1
5Thou hast loved wickedness more than goodness; 1 Unrighteousness better than to speak righteousness. Pause. 1
6Thou hast loved all words of destruction, 1 And a deceitful tongue. 1
7Therefore may God destroy thee forever, 1 May he pluck thee up and utterly remove thee from thy dwelling, 1 And thy root from the land of the living. Pause. 1
8And the righteous shall see, and fear, 1 And shall laugh at him, and say, 1
9Behold the man who made not God his help; 1 But trusted in the abundance of his wealth, 1 And strengthened himself in his vanity. 1
10But I am as a fruitful olive in the house of God: 1 I have trusted in the mercy of God 1 Forever, even for evermore. 1
11I will give thanks to thee forever, for thou hast done it: 1 And I will wait on thy name; 1 For it is good before thy saints.
