Psalms 56
For the end. Destroy not: by David, for a memorial, when he fled from the presence of Saul to the cave. 1
Have mercy, upon me, O God, have mercy upon me: 1 For my soul has trusted in thee: 1 And in the shadow of thy wings will I hope, 1 Until the iniquity have passed away. 1
I will cry to God most high; 1 The God who has benefited me. Pause. 1
He sent from heaven and saved me; 1 He gave to reproach them that trampled on me: 1 God has sent forth his mercy and his truth; 1
And he has delivered my soul from the midst of lions’ whelps: 1 I lay down to sleep, though troubled. 1 As for the sons of men, their teeth are arms and missile weapons, 1 And their tongue a sharp sword. 1
Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; 1 And thy glory above all the earth. 1
They have prepared snares for my feet, 1 And have bowed down my soul: 1 They have dug a pit before my face, 1 And fallen into it themselves. Pause. 1
My heart, O God, is ready, 1 My heart is ready: I will sing, yea will sing psalms. 1
Awake, my glory; 1 Awake, psaltery and harp: 1 I will awake early. 1
O Lord, I will give thanks to thee among the nations: 1 I will sing to thee among the Gentiles. 1
For thy mercy has been magnified even to the heavens, 1 And thy truth to the clouds. 1
Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; 1 And thy glory above all the earth.
