Psalms 59
For the end, for them that shall yet be changed; for an inscription by David for instruction,
when he had burned Mesopotamia of Syria, and Syria Zobah, and Joab had returned and smitten in the Valley of Salt twelve thousand. 1
O God, thou hast rejected and destroyed us; 1 Thou hast been angry, yet hast pitied us. 1
Thou hast shaken the earth, and troubled it; 1 Heal its breaches, for it has been shaken. 1
Thou hast shown thy people hard things: 1 Thou hast made us drink the wine of astonishment. 1
Thou hast given a token to them that fear thee, 1 That they might flee from the bow. Pause. 1
That thy beloved ones may be delivered; 1 Save with thy right hand, and hear me. 1
God has spoken in his holiness; 1 I will rejoice, and divide Shechem, 1 And measure out the Valley of Tents. 1
Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; 1 And Ephraim is the strength of my head; 1
Judah is my king; 1 Moab is the caldron of my hope; 1 Over Edom will I stretch out my shoe; 1 The Philistines have been subjected to me. 1
Who will lead me into the fortified city? 1 Who will guide me as far as Edom? 1
Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off? 1 And wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our forces? 1
Give us help from trouble: 1 For vain is the deliverance of man. 1
In God will we do valiantly; 1 And he shall bring to nought them that harass us.
