Psalms 72
1A Psalm for Asaph. 1 How good is God to Israel, 1 To the upright in heart! 1
2But my feet were almost overthrown; 1 My goings very nearly slipped. 1
3For I was jealous of the transgressors, 1 Beholding the tranquility of sinners. 1
4For there is no sign of reluctance in their death: 1 And they have firmness under their affliction. 1
5They are not in the troubles of other men; 1 And they shall not be scourged with other men. 1
6Therefore pride has possessed them; 1 They have clothed themselves with their injustice and ungodliness. 1
7Their injustice shall go forth as out of fatness: 1 They have fulfilled their intention. 1
8They have taken counsel and spoken in wickedness: 1 They have uttered unrighteousness loftily. 1
9They have set their mouth against heaven, 1 And their tongue has gone through upon the earth. 1
10Therefore shall my people return hither: 1 And full days shall be found with them. 1
11And they said, How does God know? 1 And is there knowledge in the Most High? 1
12Behold, these are the sinners, and they that prosper always: 1 They have possessed wealth. 1
13And I said, Verily in vain have I justified my heart, 1 And washed my hands in innocency. 1
14For I was plagued all the day, 1 And my reproof was every morning. 1
15If I said, I will speak thus; 1 Behold, I should have broken covenant with the generation of thy children. 1
16And I undertook to understand this, 1 But it is too hard for me, 1
17Until I go into the sanctuary of God; 1 And so understand the latter end. 1
18Surely thou hast appointed judgments to them because of their crafty dealings: 1 Thou hast cast them down when they were lifted up. 1
19How have they become desolate! 1 Suddenly they have failed: they have perished because of their iniquity. 1
20As the dream of one awakening, 1 O Lord, in thy city thou wilt despise their image. 1
21For my heart has rejoiced, 1 And my reins have been gladdened. 1
22But I was vile and knew not: 1 I became brutish before thee. 1
23Yet I am continually with thee: 1 Thou hast holden my right hand. 1
24Thou hast guided me by thy counsel, 1 And thou hast taken me to thyself with glory. 1
25For what have I in heaven but thee? 1 And what have I desired upon the earth beside thee? 1
26My heart and my flesh have failed: 1 But God is the strength of my heart, and God is my portion forever. 1
27For, behold, they that remove themselves far from thee shall perish: 1 Thou hast destroyed everyone that goes a-whoring from thee. 1
28But it is good for me to cleave close to God, 1 To put my trust in the Lord; 1 That I may proclaim all thy praises 1 In the gates of the daughter of Zion.
