Psalms 78
A Psalm for Asaph. 1 O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; 1 They have polluted thy holy temple; 1 They have made Jerusalem a storehouse of fruits. 1
They have given the dead bodies of thy servants 1 To be food for the birds of the sky, 1 The flesh of thy holy ones for the wild beasts of the earth. 1
They have shed their blood as water, 1 Round about Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them. 1
We are become a reproach to our neighbors, 1 A scorn and derision to them that are round about us. 1
How long, O Lord? wilt thou be angry forever? 1 Shall thy jealousy burn like fire? 1
Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, 1 And upon the kingdoms which have not called upon thy name. 1
For they have devoured Jacob, 1 And laid his place waste. 1
Remember not our old transgressions; 1 Let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us; 1 For we are greatly impoverished. 1
Help us, O God our Savior; 1 For the glory of thy name, O Lord, deliver us; 1 And be merciful to our sins, for thy name’s sake. 1
Lest haply they should say among the heathen, Where is their God? 1 And let the avenging of thy servants’ blood that has been shed 1 Be known among the heathen before our eyes. 1
Let the groaning of the prisoners come in before thee; 1 According to the greatness of thine arm 1 Preserve the sons of the slain ones. 1
Repay to our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, 1 With which they have reproached thee, O Lord. 1
For we are thy people and the sheep of thy pasture; 1 We will give thee thanks forever; 1 We will declare thy praise throughout all generations.
