Psalms 79
For the end, for alternate strains, a testimony for Asaph, a Psalm concerning the Assyrian. 1
Attend, O Shepherd of Israel, 1 Who guidest Joseph like a flock; 1 Thou who sittest upon the cherubs, manifest thyself; 1
Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, 1 Stir up thy power, 1 And come to deliver us. 1
Turn us, O God, 1 And cause thy face to shine; and we shall be delivered. 1
O Lord God of hosts, 1 How long art thou angry with the prayer of thy servant? 1
Thou wilt feed us with bread of tears; 1 And wilt cause us to drink tears by measure. 1
Thou hast made us a strife to our neighbors; 1 And our enemies have mocked at us. 1
Turn us, O Lord God of hosts, 1 And cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. Pause. 1
Thou hast transplanted a vine out of Egypt: 1 Thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it. 1
Thou madest a way before it, 1 And didst cause its roots to strike, and the land was filled with it. 1
Its shadow covered the mountains, 1 And its shoots equaled the goodly cedars. 1
It sent forth its branches to the sea, 1 And its shoots to the river. 1
Wherefore hast thou broken down its hedge, 1 While all that pass by the way pluck it? 1
The boar out of the wood has laid it waste, 1 And the wild beast has devoured it. 1
O God of hosts, turn, we pray thee: 1 Look on us from heaven, 1 And behold and visit this vine; 1
And restore that which thy right hand has planted: 1 And look on the son of man whom thou didst strengthen for thyself. 1
It is burned with fire and dug up: 1 They shall perish at the rebuke of thy presence. 1
Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, 1 And upon the son of man whom thou didst strengthen for thyself. 1
So will we not depart from thee: 1 Thou shalt quicken us, and we will call upon thy name. 1
Turn us, O Lord God of hosts, 1 And make thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
