Psalms 80
For the end, a Psalm for Asaph, concerning the winepresses. 1
Rejoice ye in God our helper; 1 Shout aloud to the God of Jacob. 1
Take a psalm, and produce the timbrel, 1 The pleasant psaltery with the harp. 1
Blow the trumpet at the new moon, 1 In the glorious day of your feast. 1
For this is an ordinance for Israel, 1 And a statute of the God of Jacob. 1
He made it to be a testimony in Joseph, 1 When he came forth out of the land of Egypt: 1 He heard a language which he understood not. 1
He removed his back from burdens: 1 His hands slaved in making the baskets. 1
Thou didst call upon me in trouble, and I delivered thee; 1 I heard thee in the secret place of the storm: 1 I proved thee at the water of Strife. Pause. 1
Hear, my people, and I will speak to thee, O Israel; 1 And I will testify to thee: if thou wilt hearken to me; 1
There shall be no new god in thee; 1 Neither shalt thou worship a strange god. 1
For I am the Lord thy God, 1 That brought thee out of the land of Egypt: 1 Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it. 1
But my people hearkened not to my voice; 1 And Israel gave no heed to me. 1
So I let them go after the ways of their own hearts: 1 They will go on in their own ways. 1
If my people had hearkened to me, 1 If Israel had walked in my ways, 1
I should have put down their enemies very quickly, 1 And should have laid my hand upon those that afflicted them. 1
The Lord’s enemies should have lied to him: 1 But their time shall be forever. 1
And he fed them with the fat of wheat; 1 And satisfied them with honey out of the rock.
