Psalms 87
A song of a Psalm for the sons of Korah for the end, upon Mahalath for responsive strains, of instruction for Heman the Israelite. 1
O Lord God of my salvation, 1 I have cried by day and in the night before thee. 1
Let my prayer come in before thee; 1 Incline thine ear to my supplication, O Lord. 1
For my soul is filled with troubles, 1 And my life has drawn nigh to Hades. 1
I have been reckoned with them that go down to the pit; 1 I became as a man without help;
free among the dead, 1 As the slain ones cast out, who sleep in the tomb; 1 Whom thou rememberest no more; 1 And they are rejected from thy hand. 1
They laid me in the lowest pit, 1 In dark places, and in the shadow of death. 1
Thy wrath has pressed heavily upon me, 1 And thou hast brought upon me all thy billows. Pause. 1
Thou hast removed my acquaintance far from me; 1 They have made me an abomination to themselves; 1 I have been delivered up, and have not gone forth. 1
Mine eyes are dimmed from poverty; 1 But I cried to thee, O Lord, all the day; 1 I spread forth my hands to thee. 1
Wilt thou work wonders for the dead? 1 Or shall physicians raise them up, that they shall praise thee? 1
Shall anyone declare thy mercy in the tomb? 1 And thy truth in destruction? 1
Shall thy wonders be known in darkness? 1 And thy righteousness in a forgotten land? 1
But I cried to thee, O Lord; 1 And in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee. 1
Wherefore, O Lord, dost thou reject my prayer, 1 And turn thy face away from me? 1
I am poor and in troubles from my youth; 1 And having been exalted, I was brought low and into despair. 1
Thy wrath has passed over me; 1 And thy terrors have greatly disquieted me. 1
They compassed me like water; 1 All the day they beset me together. 1
Thou hast put far from me every friend, 1 And mine acquaintances because of my wretchedness.
