Psalms 9

For the end, a Psalm of David, concerning the secrets of the Son. 1

I will give thanks to thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; 1 I will recount all thy wonderful works. 1

I will be glad and exult in thee: 1 I will sing to thy name, O thou Most High. 1

When mine enemies are turned back, 1 They shall be feeble and perish at thy presence. 1

For thou hast maintained my cause and my right; 1 Thou satest on the throne, that judgest righteousness. 1

Thou hast rebuked the nations, and the ungodly one has perished; 1 Thou hast blotted out their name forever, even forever and ever. 1

The swords of the enemy have failed utterly; and thou hast destroyed cities: 1 Their memorial has been destroyed with a noise, 1

But the Lord endures forever: 1 He has prepared his throne for judgment. 1

And he will judge the world in righteousness, 1 He will judge the nations in uprightness. 1

The Lord also is become a refuge for the poor, 1 A seasonable help, in affliction. 1

And let them that know thy name hope in thee: 1 For thou, O Lord, hast not failed them that diligently seek thee. 1

Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion: 1 Declare his dealings among the nations. 1

For he remembered them, in making inquisition for blood: 1 He has not forgotten the supplication of the poor. 1

Have mercy upon me, O Lord; look upon my affliction which I suffer of mine enemies, 1 Thou that liftest me up from the gates of death: 1

That I may declare all thy praises 1 In the gates of the daughter of Zion: 1 I will exult in thy salvation. 1

The heathen are caught in the destruction which they planned: 1 In the very snare which they hid is their foot taken. 1

The Lord is known as executing judgments: 1 The sinner is taken in the works of his hands. A song of Pause. 1

Let sinners be driven away into Hades, 1 Even all the nations that forget God. 1

For the poor shall not be forgotten forever: 1 The patience of the needy ones shall not perish forever. 1

Arise, O Lord, let not man prevail: 1 Let the heathen be judged before thee. 1

Appoint, O Lord, a lawgiver over them: 1 Let the heathen know that they are men. Pause. 1

Why standest thou afar off, O Lord? 1 Why dost thou overlook us in times of need, in affliction? 1

While the ungodly one acts proudly, the poor is hotly pursued: 1 The wicked are taken in the crafty counsels which they imagine. 1

Because the sinner praises himself for the desires of his heart; 1 And the unjust one blesses himself. 1

The sinner has provoked the Lord: 1 According to the abundance of his pride he will not seek after him: 1 God is not before him. 1

His ways are profane at all times; 1 Thy judgments are removed from before him: 1 He will gain the mastery over all his enemies. 1

For he has said in his heart, I shall not be moved, 1 Continuing without evil from generation to generation. 1

Whose mouth is full of cursing, and bitterness, and fraud: 1 Under his tongue are trouble and pain. 1

He lies in wait with rich men 1 In secret places, in order to slay the innocent: 1 His eyes are set against the poor. 1

He lies in wait in secret as a lion in his den: 1 He lies in wait to ravish the poor, 1 To ravish the poor when he draws him after him: 1 He will bring him down in his snare. 1

He will bow down and fall when he has mastered the poor. 1

For he has said in his heart, God has forgotten: 1 He has turned away his face so as never to look. 1

Arise, O Lord God; let thy hand be lifted up: 1 Forget not the poor. 1

Wherefore has the wicked provoked God? 1 For he has said in his heart, He will not require it. 1

Thou seest it; for thou dost observe trouble and wrath, 1 To deliver them into thy hands: 1 The poor has been left to thee; 1 Thou wast a helper to the orphan. 1

Break thou the arm of the sinner and wicked man: 1 His sin shall be sought for, and shall not be found. 1

The Lord shall reign forever, even forever and ever: 1 Ye Gentiles shall perish out of his land. 1

The Lord has heard the desire of the poor: 1 Thine ear has inclined to the preparation of their heart; 1

To plead for the orphan and afflicted, 1 That man may no more boast upon the earth.
