All the population of Ai fell that day, both men and women, twelve thousand in all.

And so it was, that all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.

24When the Israelite had finished slaughtering the townsmen of Ai who had run into the desert and when they had cut them down, giving no quarter, all Israel then returned to Ai and sacked it.
