Lev 5:16 (Lev 5:14-16) (#8.491): For he who cheats (by not offering the full amount of tithe or first fruits) in things dedicated to Adonai, he is to offer a guilt offering and add a fifth onto the value and restore it He shall make restitution for that sin ·err (from the standard goal)· which he has done wrong in the holy thing, and shall add a fifth part to it, and give it to the priest; and the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the fault incurring guilt offering, and he will be forgiven.

If a person is not sure if they have committed a sin requiring a sin sacrifice or if they have not committed such sin, then they should bring a sin offering to make sure they are guiltless “If anyone sins ·errs (the standard goal)· against any the mitzvot ·instructions· of Adonai concerning things which should not be done, though he didn’t know it, yet he is condemned guilty, and shall bear his depravity (moral evil).
