The man said, “What is your name?” And Jacob said, “My name is Jacob.”

And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.

26Then that man said to Jacob, “Let me go. It’s nearly time for the sun to come up.” But Jacob said, “No. First, I want you to promise that you will make things go well for me. Then I will let you go.”

28Then the man said, “Now I’m giving you a new name. Your name will not be Jacob any more. You tried to fight with God and with people, and you won. So I’m giving you the name Israel.” That name Israel means fight with God.
