וַיִּשְׁלְחוּ ־ שָׁם הָעֵדָה שְׁנֵים ־ עָשָׂר אֶלֶף אִישׁ מִבְּנֵי הֶחָיִל וַיְצַוּוּ אוֹתָם לֵאמֹר לְכוּ וְהִכִּיתֶם אֶת ־ יוֹשְׁבֵי יָבֵשׁ גִּלְעָד לְפִי ־ חֶרֶב וְהַנָּשִׁים וְהַטָּֽף ׃
