രെഹബെയാം യെരൂശലേമിൽ വന്നശേഷം യിസ്രായേലിനോട് യുദ്ധം ചെയ്തു രാജ്യം വീണ്ടെടുക്കേണ്ടതിന് യെഹൂദാ ഗോത്രത്തിൽനിന്നും ബെന്യാമീൻ ഗോത്രത്തിൽനിന്നും യോദ്ധാക്കളായ ഒരുലക്ഷത്തി എൺപതിനായിരം (1,80,000) പേരെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു.
