[ edit] Done it is forſoþe aftir þe cercle of a ȝeer, þat tyme þat kyngis ben wont to gon forþ to batelis, Joab gaderde þe hooſt, and þe ſtreyngþe of knyȝþode, and waaſtide þe lond of þe ſonys of Amon, and wente, and beſegide Rabaþ; bot Dauid abood in Jeruſalem, whan Joab ſmote Rabaþ, and diſtroyede it. Dauiþ forſoþe toke þe crowne of Melchon fro his heued, and foonde in it a talent of gold weiȝt, and moſt precious gemmes, and maad þerof to hym a dyademe; alſo manye ſpoylis of þe cytee he toke.

Þe puple forſoþe þat was in it he ladde out, and maad vpon hem peſtelis, and ſledis, and prowd yren charis, to gon ouer, ſo þat þei weren al to-kut and tobroſed alle; þus dide Dauid to alle þe cytees of þe ſonys of Amon, and he is turned aȝeyn wiþ alle his puple in to Jeruſalem. Aftir þes þingis bateil is gon in in Gaſer aȝeinus Philiſteis, in þe whiche ſmote Sobachai Vſachites Saphai of þe kynrede of Raphaym, and he lowede hem. Anoþer alſo bateil is don aȝeynus þe Philiſteis, in þe whiche Adeodate, þe ſone of Saltus, Beþlamyte, ſmote þe broþer of Goliaþ Jeþee, whos ſpere ſchaft was as þe beme of webſters.

Bot and anoþer bateil fell in Geþ, in þe whiche a moſt longe man was, hauynge ſexe fyngers, þat is, to gider foure and twenty, þe whiche and he was of Raphaym lynage goten; þis blasfemede Yrael, and Jonaþan, þe ſone of Sama, broþer of Dauid, ſmote hym. Þes ben þe ſonys of Raphaym in Jeþ, þe whiche fellen in þe hond of Dauid and of þe ſeruauntis of hym.
