[ edit] Forſoþe aftir þat þe noyſe ceeſſide, diſciplis clepid, Poul moneſtinge hem, ſeide farwel; and he wente forþ, for to go into Macedonye. Soþli whanne he hadde walkid bi þe partis, and hadde moneſtid hem by moche word, he cam to Greece. Where whanne he hadde be þre moneþis, aſſpies in yuel of þe Jewis weren maad to him, to ſchippinge into Sirie; and he hadde counceil of turnynge aȝen into Macedonye. Soþli Soſſipater Pirri Beroence folowide him; of Teſſaloniſenſis forſoþe Ariſtark, and Secunde, and Gayus, Derbeus, and Tymoþe; ſoþli Aſians, Tyticus and Trophimus. Þeſe whanne þei wenten bifore, ſuſteyneden, or abiden, vs at Troade.

Forſoþ we ſchipiden aftir dayes of þerf looues fro Philippis, and camen to hem at Troade in fyue daies, where we dwelten ſeuene dayes. Soþli o day of ſaboþ, whanne we camen for to breke breed, Poul diſputide wiþ hem, he to goynge in þe morwe; and he drow along þe word til into mydnyȝt. Soþli plenteuous laumpis weren in þe ſouping place, where we weren gederid to gidere. Soþli ſum ȝong man, Euticus bi name, ſittinge on þe wyndow, whanne he was dreynt wiþ a greuous ſleep, Poul diſputinge longe, he ledd by ſleep fel down fro þe þridde ſtage, or ſouping place; and he takun vp, is offrid deed.

To whom whanne Poul cam down, he lay on him, and biclippinge ſeide, Nyle ȝe be troublid; forſoþ þe ſoule of him is in him. And he goynge vp, and brekinge breed, and taſtinge, and ſpak ynow til into þe liȝt; and ſo he wente forþ. Soþli þei brouȝten to þe child lyuynge, and þei ben comfortid not leeſt. Soþli we ſtiȝynge vp into a ſchip, ſchippiden into Aſſon, fro þennus we to receyuynge Poul; ſoþli ſo he hadde diſpoſid, to makinge iourney bi lond. Forſoþ whanne he fond vs in Aſſon, him takyn to, we camen to Mitilene. And fro þennis ſchippinge, in þe day ſuynge we camen aȝens Chyum, and an oþer day we haueneden at Samum, and in þe day ſuynge we camen to Milete.

Soþli Poul purpoſide for to ſchippe ouer to Epheſi, leſt ony dwelling were maad to him in Aſie; forſoþ he hiȝede, if it were poſſible to him, þat he ſchulde make þe day of Pentecoſte at Jeruſalem. Fro Milete ſoþli he ſendynge to Epheſy, clepide þe more þorw birþe of þe chirche.

Which whanne þei camen to him, and weren to gidere, he ſeide to hem, Ȝe witen fro þe firſte day, in which I cam into Aſie, hou wiþ ȝou by ech tyme I was, ſeruynge to þe Lord wiþ al mekeneſſe, and myldneſſe, and teeris, and temptaciouns, þat felden to me of aſpyingis of Jewis; how I wiþdrowȝ noȝt of profitable þingis to ȝou, þat I telde not to ȝou, and tauȝte ȝou openly, and bi houſis; witneſſinge to Jewis and heþene men into God penaunce, and feiþ into oure Lord Jheſu Criſt. And now lo!

I boundun in ſpirit, go into Jeruſalem; what þingis in it ben to comynge to me vnknowynge, no but þat þe Hooly Goſt by alle citees witneſſiþ to me, ſeyinge, for bondis and tribulaciouns at Jeruſalem dwellen to me. But I ſchame, or drede, no þing of þeſe, neþer I make my ſoule, þat is, lyf, preciouſer þan my ſilf, þe while I ende, or fulfille, my cours, and þe mynyſterie of þe word, þe which I receyuede of þe Lord Jheſu, for to witneſſe þe goſpel of þe grace of God. And now lo! I woot, for ȝe ſchulen no more ſe my face, alle ȝe by whom I paſſide, prechinge þe kingdom of God. Wherfore I witneſſe ȝou þis day, for I am clene of þe blood, or ſynne, of alle men.

Forſoþ I fleiȝ not awey, þat I tauȝte, or teelde, not to ȝou al þe councel of God. Take tent to ȝou, and to al þe folk, in which þe Hooly Goſt ſette ȝou biſchopis, for to reule þe chirche of God, which he purchaſide wiþ his blood. I woot for aftir my departyng, rauyſchinge wolues ſchulen entre in to ȝou, not ſparinge þe flok; and of ȝou ſilf men ſpekinge weyward þingis ſchulen ryſe, þat þei leden diſciplis aftir hem. For which þing wake ȝe, holdinge in mynde þat by þre ȝeer nyȝt and day I ceeſſide not wiþ teeris moneſtinge ech of ȝou. And now I bitake ȝou to God and to þe word of his grace, þat is myȝty for to edifie and ȝyue heritage in alle maad hooly.

Forſoþ of no man I coueitide ſiluer, and gold, or cloþ, as ȝe ſilf witen; but to þo þingis þat weren nede to me, and to þeſe þat ben wiþ me, þeſe hondis myniſtriden. Alle þeſe þingis I ſchewide to ȝou, for ſo it bihoueþ men trauelinge for to reſceyue þe ſyke, and for to haue mynde of þe word of þe Lord Jheſu; for he ſeide, It is more bleſſid for to ȝyue, more þan for to receyue. And whanne he hadde ſeide þeſe þingis, his knees putt, he preiede wiþ alle hem. Soþli greet wepyng of alle men was maad; and þei fallinge in þe necke of Poul, kiſſeden him, ſorwinge mooſt in þe word þat he ſeide, for þei weren no more to ſeynge his face. And þei ledden him to þe ſchip.
