Habakkuk 3
A prayer of the prophet Habakkuk, with a song. 1
O Lord, I have heard thy report, and was afraid: 1 I considered thy works, and was amazed: 1 Thou shalt be known between the two living creatures, 1 Thou shalt be acknowledged when the years draw nigh; 1 Thou shalt be manifested when the time is come; 1 When my soul is troubled, thou wilt in wrath remember mercy. 1
God shall come from Teman, 1 And the Holy One from the dark shady Mount Paran. Pause. 1
His excellence covered the heavens, 1 And the earth was full of his praise. 1 And his brightness shall be as light; 1 There were horns in his hands, 1 And he caused a mighty love of his strength. 1
Before his face shall go a report, 1 And it shall go forth into the plains, 1
The earth stood at his feet and trembled: 1 He beheld, and the nations melted away: 1 The mountains were violently burst through, 1 The everlasting hills melted at his everlasting going forth. 1
Because of troubles I looked upon the tents of the Ethiopians: 1 The tabernacles also of the land of Midian shall be dismayed. 1
Wast thou angry, O Lord, with the rivers? 1 Or was thy wrath against the rivers, 1 Or thine anger against the sea? 1 For thou wilt mount on thy horses, 1 And thy chariots are salvation. 1
Surely thou didst bend thy bow 1 At scepters, saith the Lord. Pause. 1 The land of rivers shall be torn asunder. 1
The nations shall see thee and be in pain, 1 As thou dost divide the moving waters: 1 The deep uttered her voice, 1 And raised her form on high. 1
The sun was exalted, and the moon stood still in her course: 1 Thy darts shall go forth at the light, 1 At the brightness of the gleaming of thine arms. 1
Thou wilt bring low the land with threatening, 1 And in wrath thou wilt break down the nations. 1
Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, 1 To save thine anointed: 1 Thou shalt bring death on the heads of transgressors; 1 Thou hast brought bands upon their neck. Pause. 1
Thou didst cut asunder the heads of princes with amazement, 1 They shall tremble in it; 1 They shall burst their bridles, 1 They shall be as a poor man devouring in secret. 1
And thou dost cause thy horses to enter the sea, 1 Disturbing much water. 1
I watched, and my belly trembled 1 At the sound of the prayer of my lips, 1 And trembling entered into my bones, 1 And my frame was troubled within me; 1 I will rest in the day of affliction, 1 From going up to the people of my sojourning. 1
For though the fig tree shall bear no fruit, 1 And there shall be no produce on the vines; 1 The labor of the olive shall fail, 1 And the fields shall produce no food: 1 The sheep have failed from the pasture, 1 And there are no oxen at the cribs; 1
Yet I will exult in the Lord, 1 I will joy in God my Savior. 1
The Lord God is my strength, 1 And he will perfectly strengthen my feet; 1 He mounts me upon high places, 1 That I may conquer by his song.
