Deuteronomy 33

This is the blessing with which Moses the man of God blessed the people of Israel before his death.

He said: 1 Yahweh came from Sinai 1 and rose from Seir upon them. 1 He shined out from Mount Paran, 1 and he came with ten thousands of holy ones. 1 In his right hand were flashes of lightning. 1

Indeed, he loves the peoples; 1 all his holy ones are in your hand, 1 and they bowed down at your feet; 1 they received your words. 1

Moses commanded us a law, 1 an inheritance for the assembly of Jacob. 1

Then there was a king in Jeshurun, 1 when the heads of the people had gathered, 1 all the tribes of Israel together. 1

Let Reuben live and not die, 1 but may his men be few.

This is the blessing for Judah. Moses said: 1 Listen, Yahweh, to the voice of Judah, 1 and bring him to his people again. 1 Fight for him; 1 be a help against his enemies.

About Levi, Moses said: 1 Your Thummim and your Urim belong your loyal one, 1 the one whom you tested at Massah, 1 with whom you struggled at the waters of Meribah. 1

The man who said about his father and mother, “I have not seen them.” 1 Neither did he acknowledge his brothers, 1 nor did he take account of his own children. 1 For he guarded your word 1 and kept your covenant. 1

He teaches Jacob your decrees 1 and Israel your law. 1 He will put incense before you 1 and whole burnt offerings on your altar. 1

Bless, Yahweh, his possessions, 1 and accept the work of his hands. 1 Shatter the loins of those who rise up against him, 1 and those of the people who hate him, so that they do not rise up again.

About Benjamin, Moses said: 1 The one loved by Yahweh lives in security beside him; 1 Yahweh shields him all the day long, 1 and he lives between Yahweh's arms.

About Joseph, Moses said: 1 May his land be blessed by Yahweh 1 with the precious things of heaven, with the dew, 1 and with the deep that lies beneath. 1

May his land be blessed with the precious things of the harvest of the sun, 1 with the precious things of the produce of the months, 1

with the finest things of the ancient mountains, 1 and with the precious things of the everlasting hills. 1

May his land be blessed with the precious things of the earth and its abundance, 1 and with the good will of him who was in the bush. 1 Let the blessing come on the head of Joseph, 1 and on the top of the head of him who was prince over his brothers. 1

The firstborn of an ox, majestic is he, 1 and his horns are the horns of a wild ox. 1 With them he will push the peoples, all of them, to the ends of the earth. 1 These are the ten thousands of Ephraim; 1 these are the thousands of Manasseh.

About Zebulun, Moses said: 1 Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out, 1 and you, Issachar, in your tents. 1

They will call the peoples to the mountains. 1 There will they offer sacrifices of righteousness. 1 For they will suck the abundance of the seas, 1 and from the sand on the seashore.

About Gad, Moses said: 1 Blessed be he who enlarges Gad. 1 He will live there like a lioness, 1 and he will tear off an arm or a head. 1

He provided the best part for himself, 1 for there was the leader's portion of land reserved. 1 He came with the heads of the people. 1 He carried out the justice of Yahweh 1 and his decrees with Israel.

About Dan, Moses said: 1 Dan is a lion cub 1 that leaps out from Bashan.

About Naphtali, Moses said: 1 Naphtali, satisfied with favor, 1 and full of the blessing of Yahweh, 1 take possession of the land to the west and south.

About Asher, Moses said: 1 Blessed be Asher more than the other sons; 1 let him be acceptable to his brothers, 1 and let him dip his foot in olive oil. 1

May your city bars be iron and bronze; 1 as long as will be your days, so long will your security be. 1

There is no one like God, Jeshurun—the upright one, 1 who rides through the heavens to your help, 1 and in his majesty on the clouds. 1

The eternal God is a refuge, 1 and underneath are the everlasting arms. 1 He thrust out the enemy from before you, 1 and he said, “Destroy!” 1

Israel dwelt in safety. 1 Jacob's spring was secure 1 in a land of grain and new wine; 1 indeed, let his heavens drop dew on him. 1

Your blessings are many, Israel! 1 Who is like you, a people saved by Yahweh, 1 the shield of your help, 1 and the sword of your majesty? 1 Your enemies will come trembling to you; 1 you will trample down their high places.
