Jonah 2
1Then Jonah prayed to Yahweh his God from the fish's stomach.
2He said, 1 “I called out to Yahweh about my distress 1 and he answered me; 1 from the belly of Sheol I cried out for help! 1 You heard my voice. 1
3You had thrown me into the depths, into the heart of the seas, 1 and the currents surrounded me; 1 all your waves and billows 1 passed over me. 1
4I said, 'I am driven out from before your eyes; 1 yet I will again look toward your holy temple.' 1
5The waters closed around me up to my neck; 1 the deep was all around me; 1 seaweed wrapped around my head. 1
6I went down to the bases of the mountains; 1 the earth with its bars closed upon me forever. 1 Yet you brought up my life from the pit, Yahweh, my God! 1
7When my soul fainted within me, I called Yahweh to mind; 1 then my prayer came to you, to your holy temple. 1
8They give attention to useless gods 1 while they forsake loving faithfulness. 1
9But as for me, I will sacrifice to you with a voice of thanksgiving; 1 I will fulfill that which I have vowed. 1 Salvation comes from Yahweh!”
10Then Yahweh spoke to the fish, and it vomited up Jonah upon the dry land.
