[ edit] Forſoþe þe erþe was of oo lip, and of þe ſame wordis. And whan men ſhulden go fro þe eſt, þei founden a feeld in þe lond of Sennaer, and þei dwelleden in it. And þe toþer ſeide to his neiȝbore, Comeþ, and make we tile ſtoons, and ſeþe we hem wiþ fier; and þei hadden tiles for ſtoons, and towȝ cley for ſyment. And þei ſeiden, Comeþ, and make we to vs a citee and a towr, whos heiȝt fulli ateyne vnto heuene; and halow we oure name, or we ben dyuydid into alle londis.

Þe Lord forſoþe deſcendide, þat he myȝte ſe þe citee and þe towre, þe which þe children of Adam bildeden; and ſeide, Se! þe puple is oon, and oo lippe is to alle, and þis þei han bigunnen to make, ne þei wolen leeue of fro her þenkyngis, to þe tyme þat þei han fulfillid hem in dede; þanne come ȝe, deſcende we, and confounde we þere þe tung of hem, þat noon here þe vois of his neiȝbore. And ſo þe Lord deuydide hem fro þat place into alle londis; and þei ſeſyden to bilde þe citee. And þerfor was callid þe name of it Babel, for þere was confoundid þe lippe of al þe erþe; and fro þens þe Lord diſparpoilide hem vpon þe face of alle regiouns. Þes ben þe generaciouns of Sem.

Sem was of an hundrid ȝeeris whanne he gat Arfaxad, two ȝeer aftre þe flood. And Sem lyuede aftir þat he gat Arfaxad fyue hundrid wynter, and gat ſonys and dowȝtres. Forſoþe Arfaxad lyuede fyue and þretty wynter, and gat Sale; and Arfaxad lyuede aftir þat he gat Sale, þre hundrid and þre ȝeer, and gat ſonys and dowȝtres. And Sale lyuede þretti ȝeer, and gat Heber; and Sale lyuede after þat he gat Heber, fowre hundrid wynter and þre, and gat ſonys and dowȝtris. Heber forſoþe lyuede fowre and þretti wynter, and gat Phaleþ; and Heber lyuede after þat he gat Phaleþ fowre hundrid and þritti wynter, and gat ſonys and dowȝtres.

Phaleþ forſoþe lyuede þritti wynter, and gat Reu; and Phaleþ lyuede aftir þat he had getun Reu two hundrid and nyne ȝeer, and gat ſonys and dowȝtris. Reu forſoþe lyuede two and þretti ȝeer, and gat Saruch; Reu forſoþe lyuede aftir þat he gat Saruch, two hundrid and ſeuene ȝeer, and gat ſonys and dowȝtres. Saruch forſoþe lyued þretti ȝeer, and gat Nachor; and Saruch lyuede aftir þat he gat Nachor, two hundrid ȝeer, and gat ſonys and dowȝtres. Nochor forſoþe lyuede nyne and twenti ȝeer, and gat Thare; and Nachor lyued after þat he gat Thare an hundrid and nyne ten ȝeer, and gat ſonys and dowȝtres. And Thare lyued ſeuenti ȝeer, and gat Abram, and Nachor, and Aran.

Þes ben forſoþe þe generaciouns of Thare. Thare gat Abram, Nachor, and Aran. Aran forſoþe gat Loþ; and Aran was deed bifore Thare, his fadre, in þe lond of his birþe, in Vr of Caldeis. Abram forſoþe and Nachor token hem wyues; þe name of þe wijf of Abram, Sarai, and þe name of þe wijf of Nachor, Melcha, þe douȝter of Aron, fadir of Melche and fadir of Jeſſe. Saray forſoþe was bareyn, and had no fre children. And alſo Thare toke Abram, his ſone, and Loþ, þe ſone of Aran, þe ſone of hys ſone, and Saray, his ſonys wijf, þe wijf of Abraam, his ſone, and he ledde hem out fro Vr of Caldeis, þat þei myȝten go into þe lond of Chanaan; and þei comen vnto Aran, and dwelliden þere.

And þe daies of Thare ben maad of two hundrid and fyue ȝeer, and deed he is in Aran.
