Amos 4
1Listen to this word, 1 you cows of Bashan, 1 you who are in the mountain of Samaria, 1 you who oppress the poor, 1 you who crush the needy, 1 you who say to your husbands, 1 “Bring us drinks.” 1
2The Lord Yahweh has sworn by his holiness, 1 “Look, the days will come on you 1 when they will take you away with hooks, 1 the last of you with fishhooks. 1
3You will go out through the breaks in the city wall, 1 each one of you going straight through it, 1 and you will be thrown out toward Harmon 1 —this is Yahweh's declaration.” 1
4“Go to Bethel and sin, 1 to Gilgal and multiply sin, 1 bring your sacrifices every morning, 1 your tithes every three days. 1
5Offer a thanksgiving sacrifice with bread; 1 proclaim freewill offerings; announce them, 1 for this pleases you, 1 you people of Israel 1 —this is the declaration of the Lord Yahweh. 1
6I gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities 1 and lack of bread in all your places. 1 Yet you have not returned to me 1 —this is Yahweh's declaration. 1
7I also withheld rain from you 1 when there were still three months to the harvest. 1 I caused it to rain on one city, 1 and caused it not to rain on another city. 1 One piece of land was rained on, 1 but the piece of land where it did not rain dried up. 1
8Two or three cities staggered to another city to drink water, 1 but were not satisfied. 1 Yet you have not returned to me 1 —this is Yahweh's declaration. 1
9I afflicted you with blight and mildew. 1 The multitude of your gardens, 1 your vineyards, 1 your fig trees, 1 and your olive trees— 1 the locusts devoured them all. 1 Yet you have not returned to me 1 —this is Yahweh's declaration. 1
10I sent a plague on you as on Egypt. 1 I killed your young men with the sword, 1 carried away your horses, 1 and made the stench of your camp come up 1 to your nostrils. 1 Yet you have not returned to me 1 —this is Yahweh's declaration. 1
11I overthrew cities among you, 1 as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. 1 You were like a burning stick snatched out of the fire. 1 Yet you have not returned to me 1 —this is Yahweh's declaration. 1
12Therefore I will do something terrible to you, Israel; 1 and because I will do something terrible to you, 1 prepare to meet your God, Israel! 1
13For, look, he who forms the mountains 1 also creates the wind, 1 reveals his thoughts to mankind, 1 makes the morning darkness, 1 and treads on the high places of the earth. 1 Yahweh, God of hosts, is his name.”
