Hosea 5
1“Hear this, priests! 1 Pay attention, house of Israel! 1 Listen, house of the king! 1 For judgment is coming against you all. 1 You have been a snare at Mizpah 1 and a net spread over Tabor. 1
2The rebels stand deep in slaughter, 1 but I will punish all of them. + 5:2 Some modern versions have The rebels have dug a deep pit , The rebels have dug deep at Shittim , or, continuing on from the previous verse, a pit dug deep at Shittim . 1
3I know Ephraim, 1 and Israel is not hidden from me. 1 Ephraim, now you have become like a prostitute; 1 Israel is defiled. 1
4Their deeds will not allow them to turn to God, 1 for the mind of adultery is in them, 1 and they do not know Yahweh. 1
5The pride of Israel testifies against him; 1 so Israel and Ephraim will stumble in their guilt; 1 and Judah also will stumble with them. 1
6They will go with their flocks and herds to seek Yahweh, 1 but they will not find him, 1 for he has withdrawn himself from them. 1
7They were unfaithful to Yahweh, 1 for they have borne illegitimate children. 1 Now the new moon festivals will devour them with their fields. 1
8Blow the horn in Gibeah, 1 and the trumpet in Ramah. 1 Sound a battle cry at Beth Aven: 1 'We will follow you, Benjamin!' 1
9Ephraim will become a desolation on the day of punishment. 1 Among the tribes of Israel I have declared what is certain to happen. 1
10The leaders of Judah are like those who move a boundary stone. 1 I will pour my wrath on them like water. 1
11Ephraim is crushed; 1 he is crushed in judgment, 1 because he has willingly walked after idols. 1
12So I will be like a moth to Ephraim, 1 and like rot to the house of Judah. 1
13When Ephraim saw his sickness, 1 and Judah saw his wound, 1 then Ephraim went to Assyria, 1 and Judah sent messengers to the great king. 1 But he was not able to cure you people 1 or heal your wound. 1
14So I will be like a lion to Ephraim, 1 and like a young lion to the house of Judah. 1 I, even I, will tear and go away; 1 I will carry them off, 1 and there will be no one to rescue them. 1
15I will go and return to my place, 1 until they acknowledge their guilt and seek my face, 1 until they earnestly seek me in their distress.”
