Ecclesiastes 6
1There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, 1 And it is abundant with man: 1
2A man to whom God shall give 1 Wealth, and substance, and honor, 1 And he wants nothing for his soul 1 Of all things that he shall desire, 1 Yet God shall not give him power to eat of it, 1 For a stranger shall devour it: 1 This is vanity, and an evil infirmity. 1
3If a man beget a hundred children, and live many years, 1 Yea, however abundant the days of his years shall be, 1 Yet if his soul shall not be satisfied with good, 1 And also he have no burial; 1 I said, An untimely birth is better than he. 1
4For he came in vanity, and departs in darkness, 1 And his name shall be covered in darkness. 1
5Moreover he has not seen the sun, nor known rest: 1 There is no more rest to this one than another. 1
6Though he has lived to the return of a thousand years, 1 Yet he has seen no good: 1 Do not all go to one place? 1
7All the labor of a man is for his mouth, 1 And yet the appetite shall not be satisfied. 1
8For what advantage has the wise man over the fool, 1 Since even the poor knows how to walk in the direction of life? 1
9The sight of the eyes is better than that which wanders in soul: 1 This is also vanity, and waywardness of spirit. 1
10If anything has been, its name has already been called: 1 And it is known what man is; 1 Neither can he contend with him who is stronger than he. 1
11For there are many things which increase vanity. 1
12What advantage has a man? 1 For who knows what is good for a man in his life, 1 During the number of the life of the days of his vanity? 1 And he has spent them as a shadow; 1 For who shall tell a man 1 What shall be after him under the sun?
