Micah 1
This is the word of Yahweh that came to Micah the Morashtite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem. 1
Listen, all you peoples. 1 Listen, earth, and all that is in you. 1 Let the Lord Yahweh be a witness against you, 1 the Lord from his holy temple. 1
Look, Yahweh comes out of his place; 1 he will come down and tread 1 on the high places of the earth. 1
The mountains will melt under him; 1 the valleys will break apart, 1 like wax before fire, 1 like waters that are poured down a steep place. 1
All this is because of the Jacob's transgression, 1 and because of the sins of the house of Israel. 1 What is Jacob's transgression? 1 Is it not Samaria? 1 What is Judah's high place? 1 Is it not Jerusalem? 1
“I will make Samaria a heap of ruins in the field, 1 a place for planting vineyards, 1 and I will pour her stones down into the valley 1 and I will uncover her foundations. 1
All her carved figures will be broken to pieces, 1 and all her gifts that she received will be burned with fire, 1 and I will destroy all her idols. 1 Since she gathered her gifts from the wages of prostitutes, 1 they will become the wages of prostitutes again.” 1
For this reason I will lament and wail; 1 I will go barefoot and naked; 1 I will wail like the jackals 1 and mourn like owls. 1
For her wound is incurable, 1 for it has come to Judah. 1 It has reached the gate of my people, 1 to Jerusalem. 1
Do not tell about it in Gath; 1 do not weep at all. 1 At Beth Leaphrah I roll myself in the dust. 1
Pass by, inhabitants of Shaphir, 1 in nakedness and shame. 1 The inhabitants of Zaanan do not come out. 1 Beth Ezel mourns, 1 for their protection is taken away. 1
For the inhabitants of Maroth wait anxiously for good news, 1 because disaster has come down from Yahweh 1 to the gates of Jerusalem. 1
Harness the chariot to the team of horses, inhabitants of Lachish. 1 You, Lachish, were the beginning of sin for the daughter of Zion, 1 for the transgressions of Israel were found in you. 1
So you will give a parting gift to Moresheth Gath; 1 the town of Akzib will disappoint the kings of Israel. 1
I will again bring a conqueror to you, 1 inhabitants of Mareshah; 1 the splendor of Israel will come to Adullam. 1
Shave your head 1 and cut off your hair 1 for the children in whom you delight. 1 Make yourself as bald as eagles, 1 for your children will go into exile from you.
