Song of Solomon 1
The Song of songs, which is Solomon’s. 1
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: 1 For thy breasts are better than wine. 1
And the smell of thine ointments is better than all spices: 1 Thy name is ointment poured forth; 1 Therefore do the young maidens love thee. 1
They have drawn thee: 1 We will run after thee, for the smell of thine ointments: 1 The king has brought me into his closet: 1 Let us rejoice and be glad in thee; 1 We will love thy breasts more than wine: 1 Righteousness loves thee. 1
I am black, but beautiful, 1 Ye daughters of Jerusalem, 1 As the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon. 1
Look not upon me, because I am dark, 1 Because the sun has looked unfavorably upon me: 1 My mother’s sons strove with me; 1 They made me keeper in the vineyards; 1 I have not kept my own vineyard. 1
Tell me, thou whom my soul loves, 1 Where thou tendest thy flock, where thou causest them to rest at noon, 1 Lest I become as one that is veiled by the flocks of thy companions. 1
If thou know not thyself, thou fair one among women, 1 Go thou forth by the footsteps of the flocks, 1 And feed thy kids by the shepherds’ tents. 1
I have likened thee, my companion, 1 To my horses in the chariots of Pharaoh. 1
How are thy cheeks beautiful as those of a dove, 1 Thy neck as chains! 1
We will make thee figures of gold 1 With studs of silver. 1
So long as the king was at table, 1 My spikenard gave forth its smell. 1
My kinsman is to me a bundle of myrrh; 1 He shall lie between my breasts. 1
My kinsman is to me a cluster of camphor 1 In the vineyards of Engedi. 1
Behold, thou art fair, my companion; 1 Behold, thou art fair; thine eyes are doves. 1
Behold, thou art fair, my kinsman, 1 Yea, beautiful, overshadowing our bed. 1
The beams of our house are cedars, 1 Our ceilings are of cypress.
