Song of Solomon 5

Let my kinsman come down into his garden, 1 And eat the fruit of his choice berries. 1 I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: 1 I have gathered my myrrh with my spices; 1 I have eaten my bread with my honey; 1 I have drunk my wine with my milk. 1 Eat, O friends, and drink; 1 Yea, brethren, drink abundantly. 1

I sleep, but my heart is awake: 1 The voice of my kinsman knocks at the door, saying, 1 Open, open to me, my companion, my sister, 1 My dove, my perfect one: 1 For my head is filled with dew, 1 And my locks with the drops of the night. 1

I have put off my coat; how shall I put it on? 1 I have washed my feet, how shall I defile them? 1

My kinsman put forth his hand by the hole of the door, 1 And my belly was moved for him. 1

I rose up to open to my kinsman; 1 My hands dropped myrrh, 1 My fingers choice myrrh, 1 On the handles of the lock. 1

I opened to my kinsman; 1 My kinsman was gone: 1 My soul failed at his speech: 1 I sought him, but found him not; 1 I called him, but he answered me not. 1

The watchmen that go their rounds in the city found me, 1 They smote me, they wounded me; 1 The keepers of the walls took away my veil from me. 1

I have charged you, O daughters of Jerusalem, 1 By the powers and the virtues of the field: 1 If ye should find my kinsman, what are ye to say to him? 1 That I am wounded with love. 1

What is thy kinsman more than another kinsman, 1 O thou beautiful among women? 1 What is thy kinsman more than another kinsman, 1 That thou hast so charged us? 1

My kinsman is white and ruddy, 1 Chosen out from myriads. 1

His head is as very fine gold, 1 His locks are flowing, black as a raven. 1

His eyes are as doves, by the pools of waters, 1 Washed with milk, 1 Sitting by the pools. 1

His cheeks are as bowls of spices pouring forth perfumes: 1 His lips are lilies, dropping choice myrrh. 1

His hands are as turned gold set with beryl: 1 His belly is an ivory tablet on a sapphire stone. 1

His legs are marble pillars set on golden sockets: 1 His form is as Lebanon, choice as the cedars. 1

His throat is most sweet, and altogether desirable. 1 This is my kinsman, 1 And this is my companion, 1 O daughters of Jerusalem.
