Song of Solomon 3
By night on my bed 1 I sought him whom my soul loves: 1 I sought him, but found him not; 1 I called him, but he hearkened not to me. 1
I will rise now, and go about in the city, 1 In the marketplaces, and in the streets, 1 And I will seek him whom my soul loves: 1 I sought him, but I found him not. 1
The watchmen who go their rounds in the city found me. 1 I said, Have ye seen him whom my soul loves? 1
It was as a little while after I parted from them, 1 That I found him whom my soul loves: 1 I held him, and did not let him go, 1 Until I brought him into my mother’s house, 1 And into the chamber of her that conceived me. 1
I have charged you, O daughters of Jerusalem, 1 By the powers and by the virtues of the field, 1 That ye rouse not nor awake my love, until he please. 1
Who is this that comes up from the wilderness 1 As pillars of smoke, 1 Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, 1 With all powders of the perfumer? 1
Behold Solomon’s bed; 1 Sixty mighty men of the mighty ones of Israel are round about it. 1
They all hold a sword, 1 Being expert in war: 1 Every man has his sword upon his thigh 1 Because of fear by night. 1
King Solomon made himself a litter of woods of Lebanon. 1
He made the pillars of it silver, 1 The bottom of it gold, 1 The covering of it scarlet, 1 In the midst of it a pavement of love, 1 For the daughters of Jerusalem. 1
Go forth, ye daughters of Zion, 1 And behold King Solomon, 1 With the crown wherewith his mother crowned him, 1 In the day of his espousals, 1 And in the day of the gladness of his heart.
