Proverbs 5
1My son, pay attention to my wisdom; 1 incline your ears to my understanding, 1
2so you may learn about discretion 1 and your lips may protect knowledge. 1
3For the lips of an adulteress drip with honey 1 and her mouth is smoother than oil, 1
4but in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, 1 cutting like a sharp sword. 1
5Her feet go down to death; 1 her steps go all the way to Sheol. 1
6She gives no thought to the path of life. 1 Her footsteps wander; she does not know where she is going. 1
7Now, my sons, listen to me; 1 do not turn away from listening to the words of my mouth. 1
8Keep your path far away from her 1 and do not come near the door of her house. 1
9In that way you will not give away your honor to others 1 or years of your life to a cruel person; 1
10strangers will not feast on your wealth; 1 what you have worked for will not go into the house of strangers. 1
11At the end of your life you will groan 1 when your flesh and your body waste away. 1
12You will say, “How I hated instruction 1 and my heart despised correction! 1
13I would not obey my teachers 1 or incline my ear to my instructors. 1
14I was almost completely ruined 1 in the midst of the assembly, among the gathering of the people.” 1
15Drink water from your own cistern 1 and drink running water from your own well. 1
16Should your springs overflow everywhere 1 and your streams of water flow in the public squares? 1
17Let them be for yourself alone 1 and not for strangers with you. 1
18May your fountain be blessed 1 and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth, 1
19for she is a loving deer and a graceful doe. 1 Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; 1 may you be continually intoxicated by her love. 1
20For why should you, my son, be captivated by an adulteress; 1 why should you embrace the breasts of an immoral woman? 1
21Yahweh sees everything a person does 1 and watches all the paths he takes. 1
22A wicked person will be seized by his own iniquities; 1 the cords of his sin will hold him tight. 1
23He will die because he lacks instruction; 1 he is led astray by his great foolishness.
