Proverbs 9
1Wisdom has built her own house; 1 she has carved seven pillars out of rocks. 1
2She has slaughtered her animals; she has mixed her wine; 1 and she has set her table. 1
3She has sent out her maids; she calls out 1 from the highest points of the city, 1
4“Who is naive? Let him turn aside here!” 1 To the one lacking good sense she speaks. 1
5“Come, eat my food, 1 and drink the wine I have mixed. 1
6Leave your naive actions and live; 1 walk in the path of understanding. 1
7Whoever disciplines a mocker receives abuse, 1 and whoever rebukes a wicked person receives insults. 1
8Do not reprove a mocker, or he will hate you; 1 reprove a wise man, and he will love you. 1
9Give to a wise person, and he will become even wiser; 1 teach a righteous person, and he will add to his learning. 1
10The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom, 1 and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. 1
11For through me your days will be multiplied, 1 and years of life will be added to you. 1
12If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, 1 and if you mock, you will carry it by yourself.” 1
13The woman of foolishness is ignorant; 1 she is untaught and knows nothing. 1
14She sits at the door of her house, 1 on a seat in the highest places of the town. 1
15She is calling out to those who pass by in the streets, 1 to people walking straight on their way. 1
16“Let anyone who is naive turn aside here,” 1 she says to those who have no sense. 1
17“Stolen waters are sweet, 1 and bread of secrecy is delicious.” 1
18But he does not know that the dead are there, 1 that her invited guests are in the depths of Sheol.
