Isaiah 1
1The vision of Isaiah [Salvation of Yah] the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah [Praised] and Jerusalem [City of peace], in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah [Praised]. 1
2Sh'ma ·Hear obey·, heavens, 2 and listen, earth; for Adonai has spoken: 1 “I have nourished and brought up children, 2 and they have rebelled to break away from authority thus breaking relationship against me. 1
3The ox knows his owner, 2 and the donkey his master’s crib; 2 but Israel [God prevails] does not know, 2 my people don’t consider.” 1
4Ah sinnful ·deviant (from the standard goal)· nation, 2 a people loaded with depravity (moral evil), 2 offspring of evildoers, 2 children who deal corruptly! 1 They have forsaken Adonai. 2 They have despised haKadosh Isra'el [the Holy One of God prevails]. 2 They are estranged and backward. 1
5Why should you be beaten more, 2 that you revolt more and more? 1 The whole head is sick, 2 and the whole heart faint. 1
6From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it: 2 wounds, welts, and open sores. 2 They haven’t been closed, neither bandaged, neither soothed with oil. 1
7Your country is desolate. 2 Your cities are burned with fire. 2 Strangers devour your land in your presence, 2 and it is desolate, 2 as overthrown by strangers. 1
8The daughter of Zion [Mountain ridge, Marking] is left like a shelter in a vineyard, 2 like a hut in a field of melons, 2 like a besieged city. 1
9Unless Adonai Tzva'ot [Yahweh Commander of heaven’s armies] had left to us a very small remnant, 2 we would have been as Sodom [Burning]; 2 we would have been like Gomorrah [Rebellious people, Tyrants]. + 1:9. Quoted in Rom 9:29 1
10Sh'ma ·Hear obey· Adonai’s word, you rulers of Sodom [Burning]! 2 Listen to the Torah ·Teaching· of our God, you people of Gomorrah [Rebellious people, Tyrants]! 1
11“What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?,” says Adonai. 2 “I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams, 2 and the fat of fed animals. 2 I don’t delight in the blood of bulls, 2 or of lambs, 2 or of male goats. 1
12When you come to appear before me, 2 who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts? 1
13Bring no more vain offerings. 2 Incense is an abomination to me; 2 new moons, Shab'totay ·Intermissions·, and convocations: 2 I can’t bear with vain striving of iniquity in assemblies. 1
14My soul hates your New Moons and your appointed feasts. 2 They are a burden to me. 2 I am weary of bearing them. 1
15When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you. 2 Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not sh'ma ·hear obey·. 2 Your hands are full of blood. 1
16Wash yourselves, make yourself clean. 2 Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. 2 Cease to do evil. 1
17Learn to do well. 2 Seek mishpat ·justice·. 2 Relieve the oppressed. 2 Judge the orphan. 2 Plead for the widow.” 1
18“Come now, and let us reason together,” says Adonai: 2 “Though your crimes deserving peanlty, sins ·missing the goal· be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. 2 Though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. 1
19If you are willing and sh'ma ·hearing obedient·, 2 you shall eat the good of the land; 1
20but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword; 2 for the mouth of Adonai has spoken it.” 1
21How the faithful city has become a prostitute! 2 She was full of mishpat ·justice·; righteousness lodged in her, 2 but now murderers. 1
22Your silver has become dross, 2 your wine mixed with water. 1
23Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves. 2 Everyone 'ahav ·affectionately loves· bribes, and follows after rewards. 2 They don’t judge the orphan, 2 neither does the cause of the widow come to them. 1
24Therefore 'Adonay Adonai Tzva'ot [Lord, Yahweh Commander of heaven’s armies], 2 the Mighty One of Israel [God prevails], says: 1 “Ah, I will get relief from my adversaries, 2 and avenge myself on my enemies; 1
25and I will turn my hand on you, 2 thoroughly purge away your dross, 2 and will take away all your tin. 1
26I will restore your judges as at the first, 2 and your counselors as at the beginning. 1 Afterward you shall be called ‘The city of righteousness, 2 a faithful town.’ 1
27Zion [Mountain ridge, Marking] shall be redeemed with mishpat ·justice·, 2 and her converts with righteousness. 1
28But the destruction of the rebellious who break away from authority thus breaking relationship and people who sin ·intentionally miss the mark goal· shall be together, 2 and those who forsake Adonai shall be consumed. 1
29For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which you have desired, 2 and you shall be confounded for the gardens that you have chosen. 1
30For you shall be as an oak whose leaf fades, 2 and as a garden that has no water. 1
31The strong will be like tinder, 2 and his work like a spark. 1 They will both burn together, 2 and no one will quench them.”
