Isaiah 64
1Oh that you would tear the heavens, 2 that you would come down, 2 that the mountains might quake at your presence. 1
2As when fire kindles the brushwood, 2 and the fire causes the water to boil; 1 Make your name known to your adversaries, 2 that the nations may tremble at your presence! 1
3When you did awesome things which we didn’t look for, 2 you came down, and the mountains quaked at your presence. 1
4+ 64:4. MP: Nobody has seen or heard the things that God has prepared for those who wait for Him. (John 14:2; 1 Cor 2:9) For from of old men have not sh'ma ·heard·, 2 nor perceived by the ear, + 64:4. Quoted in 1 Cor 2:9 2 nor has the eye seen a God besides you, 2 who works for him who waits for him. 1
5You meet him who rejoices and does righteousness, 2 those who remember you in your ways. 1 Behold, you were angry, and we sinned ·deviated (from the standard goal)·. 2 We have been in violation for a long time. 2 Shall we be saved? 1
6For we have all become like one who is unclean, 2 and all our righteousness is like a polluted garment. 1 We all fade like a leaf; 2 and our depravities (moral evils), like the wind, take us away. 1
7There is no one who calls on your name, 2 who stirs himself up to take hold of you; 1 for you have hidden your face from us, 2 and have consumed us by means of our depravities (moral evils). 1
8But now, Adonai, you are our Father. 2 We are the clay, and you our potter. 2 We all are the work of your hand. 1
9Don’t be furious, Adonai, 2 and don’t remember depravity (moral evil) forever. 1 Look and see, we beg you, 2 we are all your people. 1
10Your holy cities have become a wilderness. 2 Zion [Mountain ridge, Marking] has become a wilderness, 2 Jerusalem [City of peace] a desolation. 1
11Our holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised you, 2 is burned with fire; 2 and all our pleasant places are laid waste. 1
12Will you hold yourself back for these things, Adonai? 2 Will you keep silent, and punish us very severely?
