Proverbs 20
1Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. 2 Whoever is led astray, intoxicated, unintentional sin ·error·by them is not wise. 1
2The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. 2 He who provokes him to anger sins ·deviates (from the standard goal)· against his own life. 1
3It is kavod ·weighty glory· for a man to keep aloof from strife; 2 but every fool will be quarreling. 1
4The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; 2 therefore he shall begin harvest, and have nothing. 1
5Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; 2 but a man of understanding will draw it out. 1
6Many men claim to be men of chesed ·loving-kindness·, 2 but who can find a faithful man? 1
7A upright man walks in integrity. 2 Blessed are his children after him. 1
8A king who sits on the throne of judgment 2 scatters away all evil with his eyes. 1

10Differing weights and differing measures, 2 both of them alike are an abomination to Adonai. 1
11Even a child makes himself known by his doings, 2 whether his work is pure, and whether it is right. 1
12The sh'ma ·hearing obeying· ear, and the seeing eye, 2 Adonai has made even both of them. 1
13Don’t 'ahav ·affectionately love· sleep, lest you come to poverty. 2 Open your eyes, and you shall be satisfied with bread. 1
14“It’s no good, it’s no good,” says the buyer; 2 but when he is gone his way, then he boasts. 1
15There is gold and abundance of rubies; 2 but the lips of knowledge are a rare jewel. 1
16Take the garment of one who puts up collateral for a stranger; 2 and hold him in pledge for a wayward woman. 1
17Fraudulent food is sweet to a man, 2 but afterwards his mouth is filled with gravel. 1
18Plans are established by advice; 2 by wise guidance you wage war! 1
19He who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets; 2 therefore don’t keep company with him who opens wide his lips. 1

21An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning, 2 won’t be blessed in the end. 1
22Don’t say, “I will pay back evil.” 2 Wait for Adonai, and he will save you. 1
23Adonai detests differing weights, 2 and dishonest scales are not pleasing. 1
24A man’s steps are from Adonai; 2 how then can man understand his way? 1
25It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, 2 then later to consider his vows. 1
26A wise king winnows out the wicked, 2 and drives the threshing wheel over them. 1
27The spirit of man is Adonai’s lamp candle, 2 searching all his innermost parts. 1
28Chesed ·Loving-kindness· and faithfulness keep the king safe. 2 His throne is sustained by chesed ·loving-kindness·. 1
29The glory of young men is their strength. 2 The splendor of old men is their gray hair. 1
30Wounding blows cleanse away evil, 2 and beatings purge the innermost parts.
