Proverbs 30
1The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, the revelation: 1 the man says to Ithiel, 2 to Ithiel and Ucal: 1
2“Surely I am the most ignorant man, 2 and don’t have a man’s understanding. 1
3I have not learned wisdom, 2 neither do I have the knowledge of the Holy One. 1
4Who has ascended up into heaven, and descended? 2 Who has gathered the wind in his fists? 2 Who has bound the waters in his garment? 2 Who has established all the ends of the earth? 2 + 30:4 c MP: Statement and question, what is the name of “Son” of God. Consider in connection with (Ps 2:6-7) God’s King has become God’s son and (Ps 2:12) kiss the son / give reverence to the son lest he be angry and you perish. (Matt 3:16-17; John 3:13-15, 5:43 (context 5:14-47); 1 John 2:22-24) What is his name, and what is his son’s name, if you know? 1
5“Every d'var Elohim ·word of God· is flawless. 2 He is a shield to those who take refuge in him. 1
6Don’t you add to his words, 2 lest he reprove you, and you be found a liar. 1
7“Two things I have asked of you; 2 don’t deny me before I die: 1
8Remove far from me falsehood and lies. 2 Give me neither poverty nor riches. 2 Feed me with the food that is chok ·portioned, needful· for me; 1
9lest I be full, deny you, and say, ‘Who is Adonai?’ 2 or lest I be poor, and steal, 2 and so dishonor the name of my God. 1
10“Don’t slander a servant to his master, 2 lest he curse you, and you be held condemned guilty. 1
11There is a generation that curses their father, 2 and does not bless their mother. 1
12There is a generation that is pure in their own eyes, 2 yet are not washed from their filthiness. 1
13There is a generation, oh how lofty are their eyes! 2 Their eyelids are lifted up. 1
14There is a generation whose teeth are like swords, 2 and their jaws like knives, 2 to devour the poor from the earth, and the needy from among men. 1
15“The leach has two daughters: 2 they cry, ‘Give, give.’ 1 “There are three things that are never satisfied; 2 four that don’t say, ‘Enough:’ 2
16Sheol ·Place of the dead·, 2 the barren rachamim ·wombs / bowels of compassions·; 2 the earth that is not satisfied with water; 2 and the fire that does not say, ‘Enough.’ 1
17“The eye that mocks at his father, 2 and scorns obedience to his mother: 2 the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, 2 the young eagles shall eat it. 1
18“There are three things which are too amazing for me, 2 four which I don’t understand: 2
19The way of an eagle in the air; 2 the way of a serpent on a rock; 2 the way of a ship in the middle of the sea; 2 and the way of a man with a maiden. 1
20“So is the way of an adulterous woman: 2 she eats and wipes her mouth, 2 and says, ‘I have done no vain striving of iniquity.’ 1
21“For three things the earth tremble, 2 and under four, it can’t bear up: 2
22For a servant when he is king; 2 a fool when he is filled with food; 2
23for an unloved (wife) when her husband takes her (back); 2 and a servant who is heir to her mistress. 1
24“There are four things which are little on the earth, 2 but they are exceedingly wise: 2
25the ants are not a strong people, 2 yet they provide their food in the summer. 2
26The conies are but a feeble folk, 2 yet make they their houses in the rocks. 2
27The locusts have no king, 2 yet they advance in ranks. 2
28You can catch a lizard with your hands, 2 yet it is in kings’ palaces. 1
29“There are three things which are stately in their march, 2 four which are stately in going: 2
30The lion, which is mightiest among animals, 2 and does not turn away for any; 2
31the greyhound, 2 the billy-goat 2 and the king when his army is with him. 1
32“If you have done foolishly in lifting up yourself, 2 or if you have thought evil, 1 put your hand over your mouth. 2
33For as the churning of milk produces butter, 2 and the wringing of the nose produces blood; 2 so the forcing of wrath produces strife.”
