Proverbs 22
1A good name is more desirable than great riches, 2 and loving chen ·grace· is better than silver and gold. 1
2The rich and the poor have this in common: 2 Adonai is the maker of them all. 1
3A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself; 2 but the simple pass on, and suffer for it. 1
4The result of humility and the fear of Adonai 2 is wealth, kavod ·weighty glory·, and life. 1
5Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: 2 whoever guards his soul stays from them. 1
6Train up a child in the way he should go, 2 and when he is old he will not depart from it. 1
7The rich rule over the poor. 2 The borrower is servant to the lender. 1

9He who has a generous eye will be blessed; 2 for he shares his food with the poor. 1
10Divorce the mocker, and strife will go out; 2 yes, quarrels and insults will stop. 1
11He who 'ahav ·affectionately loves· purity of heart and speaks chen ·gracefully· 2 is the king’s friend. 1
12Adonai’s eyes watch over knowledge; 2 but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful. 1
13The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! 2 I will be killed in the streets!” 1
14The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: 2 he who is under Adonai’s wrath will fall into it. 1
15Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: 2 the rod of discipline drives it far from him. 1
16Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, 2 both come to poverty. 1
17Turn your ear, and sh'ma ·hear obey· the words of the wise. 2 Apply your heart to my teaching. 1
18For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, 2 if all of them are ready on your lips. 1
19That your trust may be in Adonai, 2 I teach you today, even you. 1
20Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things 2 of counsel and knowledge, 1
21To teach you truth, reliable words, 2 to give sound answers to the ones who sent you? 1
22Don’t exploit the poor, because he is poor; 2 and don’t crush the needy in court; 1
23for Adonai will plead their case, 2 and plunder the life of those who plunder them. 1
24Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man, 2 and don’t associate with one who harbors anger: 1
25lest you learn his ways, 2 and ensnare your soul. 1
26Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, 2 of those who are collateral for debts. 1
27If you don’t have means to pay, 2 why should he take away your bed from under you? 1
28Don’t move the ancient boundary stone, 2 which your fathers have set up. 1
29Do you see a man skilled in his work? 2 He will serve kings. 2 He won’t serve obscure men.
