Proverbs 27
1Don’t boast about tomorrow; 2 for you don’t know what a day may bring. 1
2Let another man praise you, 2 and not your own mouth; 2 a stranger, and not your own lips. 1
3A stone is heavy, 2 and sand is a burden; 2 but a fool’s provocation is heavier than both. 1
4Wrath is cruel, 2 and anger is overwhelming; 2 but who is able to stand before jealousy? 1
5Better is open rebuke 2 than hidden love. 1
6Faithful are the wounds of a 'ahav ·affectionate lover, friend·; 2 although the kisses of an enemy are profuse. 1
7A full soul loathes a honeycomb; 2 but to a hungry soul, every bitter thing is sweet. 1
8As a bird that wanders from her nest, 2 so is a man who wanders from his home. 1
9Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart; 2 so does earnest counsel from a man’s friend. 1
10Don’t forsake your friend and your father’s friend. 2 Don’t go to your brother’s house in the day of your disaster: 2 better is a neighbor who is near than a distant brother. 1
11Be wise, my son, 2 and bring joy to my heart, 2 then I can answer my critics. 1
12A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge; 2 but the simple pass on, and suffer for it. 1
13Take his garment when he puts up collateral for a stranger. 2 Hold it for a wayward woman! 1
14He who blesses his neighbor with a loud voice early in the morning, 2 it will be taken as a curse by him. 1
15A continual dropping on a rainy day 2 and a contentious wife are alike: 1
16restraining her is like restraining the wind, 2 or like grasping oil in his right hand. 1
17Iron sharpens iron; 2 so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance. 1
18Whoever tends the fig tree shall eat its fruit. 2 He who looks after his master shall be honored. 1
19Like water reflects a face, 2 so a man’s heart reflects the man. 1
20Sheol ·Place of the dead· and Abaddon ·bottomless pit· are never satisfied; 2 and a man’s eyes are never satisfied. 1
21The crucible is for silver, 2 and the furnace for gold; 2 but man is refined by his praise. 1
22Though you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with grain, 2 yet his foolishness will not be removed from him. 1
23Know well the state of your flocks, 2 and pay attention to your herds: 1
24for riches are not forever, 2 nor does even the crown endure to all generations. 1
25The hay is removed, and the new growth appears, 2 the grasses of the hills are gathered in. 1
26The lambs are for your clothing, 2 and the goats are the price of a field. 1
27There will be plenty of goats’ milk for your food, 2 for your family’s food, 2 and for the nourishment of your servant girls.
