Proverbs 29
1He who is often rebuked and stiffens his neck 2 will be destroyed suddenly, with no remedy. 1
2When the upright thrive, the people rejoice; 2 but when the wicked rule, the people groan. 1
3Whoever 'ahav ·affectionately loves· wisdom brings joy to his father; 2 but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth. 1
4The king by mishpat ·justice· makes the land stable, 2 but he who takes bribes tears it down. 1
5A man who flatters his neighbor 2 spreads a net for his feet. 1
6An evil man is snared by his rebellious breach of relationship, 2 but the upright can sing and be glad. 1
7The upright care about justice for the poor. 2 The wicked are not concerned about knowledge. 1
8Mockers stir up a city, 2 but wise men turn away anger. 1
9If a wise man goes to court with a foolish man, 2 the fool rages or scoffs, and there is no peace. 1
10The bloodthirsty hate a man of integrity; 2 and they seek the life of the upright. 1
11A fool vents all of his anger, 2 but a wise man brings himself under control. 1
12If a ruler listens to lies, 2 all of his officials are wicked. 1
13The poor man and the oppressor have this in common: 2 Adonai gives sight to the eyes of both. 1
14The king who fairly judges the poor, 2 his throne shall be established forever. 1
15The rod of correction gives wisdom, 2 but a child left to himself causes shame to his mother. 1
16When the wicked increase, rebellious breach of relationships increases; 2 but the upright will see their downfall. 1
17Correct your son, and he will give you peace; 2 yes, he will bring delight to your soul. 1
18Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; 2 but one who keeps the Torah ·Teaching· is blessed. 1
19A servant can’t be corrected by words. 2 Though he understands, yet he will not respond. 1
20Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? 2 There is more hope for a fool than for him. 1
21He who pampers his servant from youth 2 will have him become a son in the end. 1
22An angry man stirs up strife, 2 and a wrathful man abounds in rebellious breach of relationships. 1
23A man’s pride brings him low, 2 but one of lowly spirit gains kavod ·weighty glory·. 1
24Whoever is an accomplice of a thief is an enemy of his own soul. 2 He sh'ma ·hears obeys· an oath, but dares not testify. 1
25The fear of man proves to be a snare, 2 but whoever puts his trust in Adonai is kept safe. 1
26Many seek the ruler’s favor, 2 but a man’s mishpat ·justice· comes from Adonai. 1
27A dishonest man detests the upright, 2 and the upright in their ways detest the wicked.
