Job 10
I am weary of my life; 1 I will give free expression to my complaint; 1 I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. 1
I will say to God, 'Do not merely condemn me; 1 show me why you accuse me. 1
Is it good to you that you should oppress me, 1 to despise the work of your hands 1 while you smile on the plans of the wicked? 1
Do you have eyes of flesh? 1 Do you see like a man sees? 1
Are your days like the days of mankind 1 or your years like the years of people, 1
that you inquire after my iniquity 1 and search after my sin, 1
although you know I am not guilty 1 and there is no one who can rescue me from your hand? 1
Your hands have framed and fashioned me 1 together round about, yet you are destroying me. 1
Call to mind, I beg you, that you have fashioned me like clay; 1 will you bring me into dust again? 1
Have you not poured me out like milk 1 and curdled me like cheese? 1
You have clothed me with skin and flesh 1 and knit me together with bones and sinews. 1
You have granted me life and covenant faithfulness; 1 your help has guarded my spirit. 1
Yet these things you hid in your heart— 1 I know that this is what you were thinking: 1
that if I sinned, you would notice it; 1 you would not acquit me of my iniquity. 1
If I have acted wickedly, woe to me; 1 and even if I acted righteously, 1 I could not lift up my head, 1 since I am filled with disgrace— 1 see my affliction!
If my head were lifted up, 1 you would stalk me like a lion; 1 and again you would show yourself with marvellous acts of power against me. 1
You bring new witnesses against me 1 and increase your anger against me; 1 you attack me with fresh armies. 1
Why, then, have you brought me out of the womb? 1 I wish I had given up my spirit and that no eye had ever seen me. 1
I would have been as though I had never existed; 1 I would have been carried from the womb to the grave. 1
Are not my days only a few? Stop then, 1 let me alone, so that I may have a little rest 1
before I go from where I will not return, 1 to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death, 1
the land that is as dark as midnight, 1 the land of the shadow of death, without any order, 1 where the light is like midnight.'”
