Job 4
1Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, 1
2If anyone tries to speak with you, will you be impatient? 1 But who can stop himself from speaking? 1
3See, you have instructed many; 1 you have strengthened weak hands. 1
4Your words have supported him who was falling; 1 you have made feeble knees firm. 1
5But now trouble has come to you, and you are weary; 1 it touches you, and you are troubled. 1
6Is not your fear your confidence, 1 and the integrity of your ways your hope? 1
7Think about this, please: Who has ever perished when innocent? 1 Or when were the upright people ever cut off? 1
8According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity 1 and sow trouble reap it. 1
9By the breath of God they perish; 1 by the blast of his anger they are consumed. 1
10The roaring of the lion, the voice of the fierce lion, 1 the teeth of the young lions—they are broken. 1
11The old lion perishes for lack of victims; 1 the cubs of the lioness are scattered everywhere. 1
12Now a certain matter was secretly brought to me, 1 and my ear received a whisper about it. 1
13Then came thoughts from visions in the night, 1 when deep sleep falls on people. 1
14It was at night when fear and trembling came upon me, 1 and all my bones shook. 1
15Then a spirit passed before my face, 1 and the hair of my flesh stood up. 1
16The spirit stood still, but I could not discern its appearance. 1 A form was before my eyes; 1 there was silence, and I heard a voice that said, 1
17“Can a mortal man be more righteous than God? 1 Can a man be more pure than his Maker? 1
18See, if God puts no trust in his servants; 1 if he accuses his angels of folly, 1
19how much more is this true of those who live in houses of clay, 1 whose foundation is in the dust, 1 who are crushed sooner than a moth? 1
20Between morning and evening they are destroyed; 1 they perish forever without anyone noticing them. 1
21Are not their tent cords plucked up among them? 1 They die; they die without wisdom.
