Proverbs 21
1As a rush of water, so is the king’s heart in God’s hand: 1 He turns it whithersoever he may desire to point out. 1
2Every man seems to himself righteous; 1 But the Lord directs the hearts. 1
3To do justly and to speak truth, 1 Are more pleasing to God than the blood of sacrifices. 1
4A high-minded man is stouthearted in his pride; 1 And the lamp of the wicked is sin. 1
6He that gathers treasures with a lying tongue 1 Pursues vanity on to the snares of death. 1
7Destruction shall lodge with the ungodly; 1 For they refuse to do justly. 1
8To the froward God sends froward ways; 1 For his works are pure and right. 1
9It is better to dwell in a corner on the housetop, 1 Than in plastered rooms with unrighteousness, and in an open house. 1
10The soul of the ungodly shall not be pitied by any man. 1
11When an intemperate man is punished the simple becomes wiser: 1 And a wise man understanding will receive knowledge. 1
12A righteous man understands the hearts of the ungodly: 1 And despises the ungodly for their wickedness. 1
13He that stops his ears from hearing the poor, 1 Himself also shall cry, and there shall be none to hear him. 1
14A secret gift calms anger: 1 But he that forbears to give stirs up strong wrath. 1
15It is the joy of the righteous to do judgment: 1 But a holy man is abominable with evildoers. 1
16A man that wanders out of the way of righteousness, 1 Shall rest in the congregation of giants. 1
17A poor man loves mirth, 1 Loving wine and oil in abundance; 1
18And a transgressor is the abomination of a righteous man. 1
19It is better to dwell in a wilderness 1 Than with a quarrelsome and talkative and passionate woman. 1
20A desirable treasure will rest on the mouth of the wise; 1 But foolish men will swallow it up. 1
21The way of righteousness and mercy will find life and glory. 1
22A wise man assaults strong cities, 1 And demolishes the fortress in which the ungodly trusted. 1
23He that keeps his mouth and his tongue 1 Keeps his soul from trouble. 1
24A bold and self-willed and insolent man is called a pest: 1 And he that remembers injuries is a transgressor. 1
25Desires kill the sluggard; 1 For his hands do not choose to do anything. 1
26An ungodly man entertains evil desires all the day: 1 But the righteous is unsparingly merciful and compassionate. 1
27The sacrifices of the ungodly are abomination to the Lord, 1 For they offer them wickedly. 1
28A false witness shall perish; 1 But an obedient man will speak cautiously. 1
29An ungodly man impudently withstands with his face; 1 But the upright man himself understands his ways. 1
30There is no wisdom, there is no courage, 1 There is no counsel against the ungodly. 1
31A horse is prepared for the day of battle; 1 But help is of the Lord.
