Proverbs 27
1Boast not of tomorrow; 1 For thou knowest not what the next day shall bring forth. 1
2Let thy neighbor, and not thine own mouth, praise thee; 1 A stranger, and not thine own lips. 1
3A stone is heavy, and sand cumbersome; 1 But a fool’s wrath is heavier than both. 1
4Wrath is merciless, and anger sharp: 1 But envy can bear nothing. 1
5Open reproofs are better than secret love. 1
6The wounds of a friend are more to be trusted 1 Than the spontaneous kisses of an enemy. 1
7A full soul scorns honeycombs; 1 But to a hungry soul even bitter things appear sweet. 1
8As when a bird flies down from its own nest, 1 So a man is brought into bondage whenever he estranges himself from his own place. 1
9The heart delights in ointments and wines and perfumes: 1 But the soul is broken by calamities. 1
10Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; 1 And when thou art in distress go not into thy brother’s house: 1 Better is a friend that is near than a brother living far off. 1
11Son, be wise, that thy heart may rejoice; 1 And remove thou from thyself reproachful words. 1
12A wise man, when evils are approaching, hides himself; 1 But fools pass on, and will be punished. 1
13Take away the man’s garment (for a scorner has passed by), 1 Whoever lays waste another’s goods. 1
14Whosoever shall bless a friend in the morning with a loud voice, 1 Shall seem to differ nothing from one who curses him. 1
15On a stormy day drops of rain drive a man out of his house; 1 So also does a railing woman drive a man out of his own house. 1
16The north wind is sharp, 1 But it is called by name propitious. 1
17Iron sharpens iron; 1 And a man sharpens his friend’s countenance. 1
18He that plants a fig tree shall eat the fruits of it: 1 So he that waits on his own master shall be honored. 1
19As faces are not like other faces, 1 So neither are the thoughts of men. 1
20a He that fixes his eye is an abomination to the Lord; 1 And the uninstructed do not restrain their tongue. 1
21a The heart of the transgressor seeks after mischiefs; 1 But an upright heart seeks knowledge. 1
22Though thou scourge a fool, disgracing him in the midst of the council, 1 Thou wilt still in nowise remove his folly from him. 1
23Do thou thoroughly know the number of thy flock, 1 And pay attention to thy herds. 1
24For a man has not strength and power forever; 1 Neither does he transmit it from generation to generation. 1
25Take care of the herbage in the field, and thou shalt cut grass, 1 And gather the mountain hay; 1
26That thou mayest have wool of sheep for clothing: 1 Pay attention to the land, that thou mayest have lambs. 1
27My son, thou hast from me words very useful for thy life, 1 And for the life of thy servants.
