Proverbs 5
1My son, attend to my wisdom, 1 And apply thine ear to my words; 1
2That thou mayest keep good understanding, 1 And the discretion of my lips gives thee a charge. 1 Give no heed to a worthless woman; 1
3For honey drops from the lips of a harlot, 1 Who for a season pleases thy palate: 1
4But afterward thou wilt find her more bitter than gall, 1 And sharper than a two-edged sword. 1
5For the feet of folly lead 1 Those who deal with her down to the grave with death; 1 And her steps are not established. 1
6For she goes not upon the paths of life; 1 But her ways are slippery, and not easily known. 1
7Now then, my son, hear me, 1 And make not my words of none effect. 1
8Remove thy way far from her; 1 Draw not near to the doors of her house: 1
9Lest thou give away thy life to others, 1 And thy substance to the merciless: 1
10Lest strangers be filled with thy strength, 1 And thy labors come into the houses of strangers; 1
11And thou repent at last, 1 When the flesh of thy body is consumed, 1
12And thou shalt say, How have I hated instruction, 1 And my heart avoided reproofs! 1
13I heard not the voice of him that instructed me, and taught me, 1 Neither did I apply mine ear. 1
14I was almost in all evil 1 In the midst of the congregation and assembly. 1
15Drink waters out of thine own vessels, 1 And out of thine own springing wells. 1
16Let not waters out of thy fountain be spilt by thee, 1 But let thy waters go into thy streets. 1
17Let them be only thine own, 1 And let no stranger partake with thee. 1
18Let thy fountain of water be truly thine own; 1 And rejoice with the wife of thy youth. 1
19Let thy loving hart and thy graceful colt company with thee, 1 And let her be considered thine own, and be with thee at all times; 1 For ravished with her love thou shalt be greatly increased. 1
20Be not intimate with a strange woman, 1 Neither fold thyself in the arms of a woman not thine own. 1
21For the ways of a man are before the eyes of God, 1 And he looks on all his paths. 1
22Iniquities ensnare a man, 1 And every one is bound in the chains of his own sins. 1
23Such a man dies with the uninstructed; 1 And he is cast forth from the abundance of his own substance, 1 And has perished through folly.
