Proverbs 22
1A fair name is better than much wealth, 1 And good favor is above silver and gold. 1
2The rich and the poor meet together; 1 But the Lord made them both. 1
3An intelligent man seeing a bad man severely punished is himself instructed, 1 But fools pass by and are punished. 1
4The fear of the Lord is the offspring of wisdom, 1 And wealth, and glory, and life. 1
5Thistles and snares are in perverse ways; 1 But he that keeps his soul will refrain from them. 1
7The rich will rule over the poor, 1 And servants will lend to their own masters. 1
8a God loves a cheerful and liberal man; 1 But a man shall fully prove the folly of his works. 1
9a He that gives liberally secures victory and honor; 1 But he takes away the life of them that possess them. 1
10Cast out a pestilent person from the council, and strife shall go out with him; 1 For when he sits in the council he dishonors all. 1
11The Lord loves holy hearts, 1 And all blameless persons are acceptable with him: 1 A king rules with his lips. 1
12But the eyes of the Lord preserve discretion; 1 But the transgressor despises wise words. 1
13The sluggard makes excuses, and says, 1 There is a lion in the ways, and murderers in the streets. 1
14a Evil ways are before a man, 1 And he does not like to turn away from them; 1 But it is needful to turn aside from a perverse and bad way. 1
15Folly is attached to the heart of a child, 1 But the rod and instruction are then far from him. 1
16He that oppresses the poor, increases his own substance, 1 Yet gives to the rich so as to make it less. 1
17Incline thine ear to the words of wise men: 1 Hear also my word, and apply thy heart, 1
18That thou mayest know that they are good: 1 And if thou lay them to heart, 1 They shall also gladden thee on thy lips, 1
19That thy hope may be in the Lord, 1 And he may make thy way known to thee. 1
20And do thou too repeatedly record them for thyself 1 On the table of thy heart, for counsel and knowledge. 1
21I therefore teach thee truth, and knowledge good to hear; 1 That thou mayest answer words of truth to them that question thee. 1
22Do no violence to the poor, for he is needy: 1 Neither dishonor the helpless man in the gates. 1
23For the Lord will plead his cause, 1 And thou shalt deliver thy soul in safety. 1
24Be not companion to a furious man; 1 Neither lodge with a passionate man: 1
25Lest thou learn of his ways, 1 And get snares to thy soul. 1
26Become not surety from respect of a man’s person. 1
27For if those have not whence to give compensation, 1 They will take the bed that is under thee. 1
28Remove not the old landmarks, which thy fathers placed. 1
29It is fit that an observant man and one diligent in his business 1 Should attend on kings, 1 And not attend on slothful men.
