Job 19

Then Job answered and said, 1

How long will ye vex my soul, 1 And destroy me with words? 1 Only know that the Lord has dealt with me thus. 1

Ye speak against me; ye do not feel for me, but bear hard upon me. 1

a In having spoken words which it was not right to speak; 1 And my words err, and are unseasonable. 1

But alas! for ye magnify yourselves against me, 1 And insult me with reproach. 1

Know then that it is the Lord that has troubled me, 1 And has raised his bulwark against me. 1

Behold, I laugh at reproach; I will not speak: 1 Or I will cry out, but there is nowhere judgment. 1

I am fenced round about, and can by no means escape: 1 He has set darkness before my face. 1

And he has stripped me of my glory, 1 And has taken the crown from my head. 1

He has torn me round about, and I am gone: 1 And he has cut off my hope like a tree. 1

And he has dreadfully handled me in anger, 1 And has counted me for an enemy. 1

His troops also came upon me with one accord, 1 Liers in wait compassed my ways. 1

My brethren have stood aloof from me; 1 They have recognized strangers rather than me: 1 And my friends have become pitiless. 1

My nearest of kin have not acknowledged me, 1 And they that knew my name have forgotten me. 1

As for my household, and my maidservants, 1 I was a stranger before them. 1

I called my servant, and he hearkened not; 1 And my mouth entreated him. 1

And I besought my wife, 1 And earnestly entreated the sons of my concubines. 1

But they rejected me forever; 1 Whenever I rise up, they speak against me. 1

They that saw me abhorred me: 1 The very persons whom I had loved, rose up against me. 1

My flesh is corrupt under my skin, 1 And my bones are held in my teeth. 1

Pity me, pity me, O friends; 1 For it is the hand of the Lord that has touched me. 1

Wherefore do ye persecute me as also the Lord does, 1 And are not satisfied with my flesh? 1

For oh that my words were written, 1 And that they were recorded in a book forever, 1

With an iron pen and lead, 1 Or graven in the rocks! 1

For I know that he is eternal who is about to deliver me, 1

And to raise up upon the earth my skin that endures these sufferings: 1 For these things have been accomplished to me of the Lord; 1

Which I am conscious of in myself, 1 Which mine eye has seen, and not another, 1 But all have been fulfilled to me in my bosom. 1

But if ye shall also say, What shall we say before him, 1 And so find the root of the matter in him? 1

Do ye also beware of deceit: 1 For wrath will come upon transgressors; 1 And then shall they know where their substance is.
