Job 4
1Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, 1
2Hast thou been often spoken to in distress? 1 But who shall endure the force of thy words? 1
3For whereas thou hast instructed many, 1 And hast strengthened the hands of the weak one, 1
4And hast supported the failing with words, 1 And hast imparted courage to feeble knees. 1
5Yet now that pain has come upon thee, and touched thee, thou art troubled. 1
6Is not thy fear founded in folly, 1 Thy hope also, and the mischief of thy way? 1
7Remember then who has perished, being pure? 1 Or when were the truehearted utterly destroyed? 1
8Accordingly as I have seen men plowing barren places, 1 And they that sow them will reap sorrows for themselves. 1
9They shall perish by the command of the Lord, 1 And shall be utterly consumed by the breath of his wrath. 1
10The strength of the lion, and the voice of the lioness, 1 And the exulting cry of serpents are quenched. 1
11The old lion has perished for want of food, 1 And the lions’ whelps have forsaken one another. 1
12But if there had been any truth in thy words, 1 None of these evils would have befallen thee. 1 Shall not mine ear receive excellent revelations from him? 1
13But as when terror falls upon men, 1 With dread and a sound in the night, 1
14Horror and trembling seized me, 1 And caused all my bones greatly to shake. 1
15And a spirit came before my face; 1 And my hair and flesh quivered. 1
16I arose and perceived it not: 1 I looked, and there was no form before my eyes: 1 But I only heard a breath and a voice, saying, 1
17What, shall a mortal be pure before the Lord? 1 Or a man be blameless in regard to his works? 1
18Whereas he trusts not in his servants, 1 And perceives perverseness in his angels. 1
19But as for them that dwell in houses of clay, 1 Of whom we also are formed of the same clay, 1 He smites them like a moth. 1
20And from morning to evening they no longer exist: 1 They have perished, because they cannot help themselves. 1
21For he blows upon them, and they are withered: 1 They have perished for lack of wisdom.
