Job 6
But Job answered and said, 1
Oh that one would indeed weigh the wrath that is upon me, 1 And take up my griefs in a balance together! 1
And verily they would be heavier than the sand by the seashore: 1 But, as it seems, my words are vain. 1
For the arrows of the Lord are in my body, 1 Whose violence drinks up my blood: 1 Whenever I am going to speak, they pierce me. 1
What then? will the wild ass bray for nothing, if he is not seeking food? 1 Or again, will the ox low at the manger, when he has fodder? 1
Shall bread be eaten without salt? 1 Or again, is there taste in empty words? 1
For my wrath cannot cease; 1 For I perceive my food as the smell of a lion to be loathsome. 1
For oh that he would grant my desire, and my petition might come, 1 And the Lord would grant my hope! 1
Let the Lord begin and wound me, 1 But let him not utterly destroy me. 1
Let the grave be my city, upon the walls of which I have leaped: I will not shrink from it; 1 For I have not denied the holy words of my God. 1
For what is my strength, that I continue? 1 What is my time, that my soul endures? 1
Is my strength the strength of stones? 1 Or is my flesh of brass? 1
Or have I not trusted in him? 1 But help is far from me. 1
Mercy has rejected me; 1 And the visitation of the Lord has disregarded me. 1
My nearest relations have not regarded me; 1 They have passed me by like a failing brook, or like a wave. 1
They who used to reverence me, now have come against me 1 Like snow or congealed ice. 1
When it has melted at the approach of heat, it is not known what it was. 1
Thus I also have been deserted of all; 1 And I am ruined, and become an outcast. 1
Behold the ways of the Temanites, 1 Ye that mark the paths of the Sabeans. 1
They too that trust in cities and riches 1 Shall come to shame. 1
But ye also have come to me without pity; 1 So that beholding my wound ye are afraid. 1
What? have I made any demand of you? 1 Or do I ask for strength from you, 1
To deliver me from enemies, 1 Or to rescue me from the hand of the mighty ones? 1
Teach ye me, and I will be silent: 1 If in anything I have erred, tell me. 1
But as it seems, the words of a true man are vain, 1 Because I do not ask strength of you. 1
Neither will your reproof cause me to cease my words, 1 For neither will I endure the sound of your speech. 1
Even because ye attack the fatherless, 1 And insult your friend. 1
But now, having looked upon your countenances, I will not lie. 1
Sit down now, and let there not be unrighteousness; 1 And unite again with the just. 1
For there is no injustice in my tongue; 1 And does not my throat meditate understanding?
