Job 2
And it came to pass on a certain day, 1 That the angels of God came to stand before the Lord, 1 And the devil came among them 1 To stand before the Lord. 1
And the Lord said to the devil, Whence comest thou? 1 Then the devil said before the Lord, 1 I am come from going through the world, and walking about the whole earth. 1
And the Lord said to the devil, 1 Hast thou then observed my servant Job, 1 That there is none of men upon the earth like him, 1 A harmless, true, blameless, godly man, 1 Abstaining from all evil? 1 And he yet cleaves to innocence, 1 Whereas thou hast told me to destroy his substance without cause? 1
And the devil answered and said to the Lord, 1 Skin for skin, 1 All that a man has will he give as a ransom for his life. 1
Nay, but put forth thy hand, and touch his bones and his flesh: 1 Verily he will curse thee to thy face. 1
And the Lord said to the devil, Behold, I deliver him up to thee; 1 Only save his life. 1
So the devil went out from the Lord, 1 And smote Job with sore boils from his feet to his head. 1
And he took a potsherd to scrape away the discharge, 1 And sat upon a dungheap outside the city. 1
e But say some word against the Lord, and die. 1
But he looked on her, and said to her, 1 Thou hast spoken like one of the foolish women. 1 If we have received good things of the hand of the Lord, shall we not endure evil things? 1 In all these things that happened to him, 1 Job sinned not at all with his lips before God. 1
Now his three friends having heard of all the evil that was come upon him, 1 Came to him each from his own country: 1 Eliphaz the king of the Temanites, 1 Bildad sovereign of the Shuhites, 1 Zophar king of the Minaeans: 1 And they came to him with one accord, 1 To comfort and to visit him. 1
And when they saw him from a distance they did not know him; 1 And they cried with a loud voice, and wept, 1 And rent every one his garment, 1 And sprinkled dust upon their heads, 1
And they sat down beside him seven days and seven nights, 1 And no one of them spoke; 1 For they saw that his affliction was dreadful and very great.
